Not cheap, especially as a single traveller. There are budget options however, but at 33 I am no longer prepared to spend 7 days in a box with 3 long haired fellas shouting "gnarly", "dude" or "rad" every 5 minutes.

In Portillo a week in main season is about:

$2700 for a double room, single occupancy in the 4/5 star hotel with access to the main dining room (7 course dinners!!!)

$650 will get you the afforementioned box in a seperate building, sharing with people called "Brick" or "Randy" and access to the cafeteria

Then there is a mid range option also.

It is also worth noting that it is significantly cheaper at the start or end of the season.

Obviously it is significantly cheaper to travel as a couple or group when booking the main hotel.

All packages include:

* Seven days unlimited access to ski lifts.

* Seven nights lodging

* Four meals per day in the best ski resort in Chile (breakfast, lunch, tea, and dinner).

* Complimentary use of pool, jacuzzi, fitness center, gymnasium, aerobics and yoga classes, cinema, game room, children’s activities, disco, piano bar, ski check, boot check and timed race courses.

*Arriving guests will receive their rooms by 2:00 pm. Check-out is before 11:00 am. If guests check out before 10:00 am, they will receive an 8th day of skiing FREE!

Flights are another thing altogether, I got business class return for 54 EUR with my airmiles, so it helped me for the accomodation.

V fest ticket already bought and paid for, Chile has been on my mind for the last couple of years and this could be the year now my oh can ski. The mountain cafe is a bit of a dream but not out of the question now my kids are all grown up. Not sure I'll ever be brave enough to risk the security I have now...wish I could though.

Chile has been on my mind too, and my flights are booked, working with a tour company for accommodation in Portillo and transfers, and looking on TripAdvisor right now for a hotel for 2 nights in Santiago.

Never been so excited for a holiday, July cant come quick enough!!

I have not even been tempted to look this season for a new board because I love the one I bought last season sooooooo much!!! It is just the perfect board for my kind of riding.

Too bloody long....

28 days Hintertux/Mayrhofen
124 days Portillo

I didn't make it to the Feldberg for a day today. Woke up at 5.30 as planned, but I just could not ignore the chores, extra work and bills and longer.....gotta do the boring stuff instead :(
