burning thighs after about 30 to 40 mins of skiing

I had that big time this trip, and it still hurts. I wondered if I wasn't stretching enough but I'm now beginning to wonder if it's all the knee strapping... My brace (and strapping on the other knee) is done up really tight so pushes my calf muscle down. I then put my boots on and it pushes the muscle back up so it feels like it's being condensed into a 3 inch gap. It was alright when I skiing but when I took the boots off... man alive  |

I'm back in body but not in spirit!
I want to send out huge heartfelt thanks to Jan, Mrs Jan and family Jan, admin man and Dave Mac (oh, and my husband). They made the trip perfect, I have come home buzzing and looking forward rather than being in limbo. The only thing I would change is that my sons would've been there. At least it gives us an excuse to go back :D. I think Niederau is a wonderful place, it's so friendly and very personal. Dave Mac and the Jan family were all very generous people with their time, effort and unbounded enthusiasm, they went well beyond the call of duty to look after us and we were treated to a very local view which made it a special experience. I like small resorts and I also like large resorts. I understand both points of view. The world would be a pretty boring place if we were all the same I suppose. Everyone that's going, enjoy! A couple of photos below. Thanks again and thanks to everyone on the forum for your support and helping me through a very difficult year. 2009 is gonna ROCK! I'm back on the piste    Caron xx ps. apologies for starting another N thread but I didn't want my gratitude lost on page 24 of the reports thread! |

so, I'd like to go into detail about our trip and will do when I get home tomorrow. In the meantime, I've been threatened to post within the next half hour to tell you my news...
I SKIED DOWN RED 24 TO THE BOTTOM OF THE VILLAGE! The steepest slope I've ever skied. Grace was nowhere to be seen, neither was speed or style, however, I did it and I didn't fall over! I was petrified, my heart was pounding but I traversed it, no sliding (well maybe a little) and I'm here and well. Seeing a lady side stepping down in her boots with her skis in her hand made me feel even more triumphant! enough said for now. sorry dave and admin, the husband [who took me down said tough run ] has been flicking between this and the carling cup score so it's taken slightly longer than half an hour. we had another incredible day and the evening was equally as incredible :D see you on the other side... |

it's all [bloomin] good!
I felt twinges in my right knee after doing red 23 four times. met up with everyone and banter/gluewein helped me enormously (as well as the baseball cap idea from the legend} and skied blue 21 a few more times before lunch. I was desperate to ski again after lunch but stuck to my rule of 2 hours max this hol. One more day tomorrow, may push a bit harder if the legend/conditions allow... Gotta tell you though, knee deep in powder aint easy for a recovering knee-surgery-skier. bring on the piste bashers [sorry ross, bandit, ise, et al, probably sounds like swearing to you ] having the most amazing time with the most amazing company. we don't want to come home on thursday  still smiling though :D edit how has my husband got five stars when I've only got four??? |
