The boot looks like a Head Edge+ 8.5, which is a very wide (104mm last) high volume boot often fitted to skiers with wide feet and large calves, so as well as it being too long it's also probably too wide and as your calves don't seem very large, there may also be too much room in the cuff.

As well as the fit issues there are also some performance issues. As the boot is so long, your foot will be positioned too far back so your shin will not be in proper contact with the tongue. This means you won't be able to flex the boot properly and as the boot is better suited to a person with large calves, your centre of mass might be to the rear of where it should be. You might be able to improve things by fitting a spoiler between the shell and the back of the liner.

A boot that is too long will also place you somewhat further back on the ski than you would be if the boot was the correct size.

Thanks everyone for the replies..I am most intrigued by swingbeeps suggestions as the way you have described the boot certainly fits the way it feels when sking!! when you say a "spoiler" presumably you mean some packing material...should this be tapered or flat and should it be soft/hard or compressable? as I may give this a try ..changeoverday today so v. busy but skiing tomorrow all day so may do it this evening ..looking forward to trying out my new boots!!!
P.S.
I havent saved any money cos I didnt have any to start with ...and the socks were not stolen!!!!!
ok liner is out...phew! deffo more than 2cm with foot in and toes at front more like 3cm..

here are the donor socks!!

ok sock fitted and tailored (this cant possibly work!!)

ok finished!!! boot back on foot and blimey!! it works..feels comfy and note the clips are not done up to last notch anymore!!
wooooo!

Obviously this is mad and DONT TRY THIS AT HOME!! but seems ok so far..yet to ski in them...more to follow...
This is getting better and better!! I have some tubes somewhere and duct tape I will investigate now!!
I will try a davemac/swingbeep hybrid ..carpet under the liner, on the grounds that it is free, reversible, and grounded on years of invaluable experience!!
cheers guys!!
p.s. what a great name "swingbeep"
Dave Mac
You are a legend!! I might even try that..nothing to lose! its hard doing a season without any capital..I have my liftpass and food and board but spare cash is a joke!! However I am skiing loads and progressing fast!! getting much quicker on my feet with tight little turns and hopping about on moguls so I am noticing my feet moving a bit in my boots, thank you everyone for your input..I may have a solution in the offing..I have been sending all my chalet guests to the same hire shop in town so I may drop in and have a chat with the owner......if not its footbeds or out with the stanley knife!!
thanks everyone..
Greetings j2ski people
I am trying to extend the life of my Head ski-boots which I have had since learning to ski .. they have had a fair bit of use and I am now currently doing a season ..I have been clipping them up tighter I am sure the liners are compressed and the flex is too soft for me now (index 70)
I cant afford a new pair and wondered if if washing the liners might "fluff" them up a bit and they might bed down in a better shape now I can actually ski in a better position/stance.
probably a ridiculous idea but thought I would run it past you clever people
cheers Tim
