Hi

I used to ski with an exboyfriend, but since he is now an ex....I have nobody to ski with!!!

None of my friends are particularly interested, and I'm desperate to go!!

I'm thinking of going away on my own in April (I can't go earlier due to work). Does anybody know where is good to ski in April if I'm going it alone?!

Thanks :)

As a frequent lone skier, might I suggest somewhere where you don't get rooked on single room supplements which means, in the main, Switzerland or Italy. Somewhere high altitude for good conditions at that time of year, of course. I'm hoping to get a short, second trip in March or April, probably solo, and likely to opt for Engelberg, Arosa or maybe Grindelwald if the snow is still good.

Hi Lota!

That's brilliant - just what I was looking for! Thank you!! Who do you usually book with? I've searched hundreds of brochures, but am struggling to find something without single room supplements!
How long have you been a lone skier?

You never know, we may one day pass each other on the slopes!

Thanks again :)

My pleasure; I used to use one of the specialist agencies such as Ski Solutions, but it seems most now do not cater for the needs of the solo skier. Alpine Answers told me so just before Christmas when I made an inquiry.

Searching the brochures can be a depressing experience, although I booked a trip to La Thuile on Jan 23 through the Neilson website and only paid a total of £35 single room supplements.

The best results have come through resort websites, particularly in Swisserland, where you can book direct and the single room without supplement is widely available. The J2 booking service has come up trumps as well!

I have skied in groups, with friends, family etc, but sometimes it has been a question of go on my own or not ski - so go on my own it is!
Good luck, let us know how you get on!

Fab! Thank you!! I've already found some good deals, but am wondering whether I should wait til nearer the time to see what the snow is like!! :) I'd hate to book myself a trip and for there to be pure slush!!

If I am lucky enough to go, I may try Engelberg, like you suggested!

You might have to knock me off the top of your list as Mrs W might get a bit Grumpy me sharing a room with you :D :D

Ian: the solution is obvious: Kirbyrotter shares with Mrs W, and you stay alone. Then everyone (especially Mrs W!) is happy ;)
