So pretty well equal, second week in January and March is about the same, for low cost with snow.
On balance, March has better snow in the Alps, and there is more sunshine and daylight.

Soldeu will suit your budget, is good for beginners and is a friendly enough town for two 'ladies' in there 40's. You can trust me on this one because I am a lady in my 40's also...shut it Wickers!
