So far I've been to Arinsal in Andorra. As well as the main resort there I took the cable car to Pal. It was my first experience on snow and I have to admit, I'm hooked. I think learning on the dry slope really helped my technique but I wasn't prepared for the speed!

We had a great instructor and on the third day a few of us managed to board down Cappa. I actually didn't realise at the time where we were being led, and I'm gald, because I really don't think I would have taken the lift to it if I'd known.

I was looking to go back again next month, but I'm not sure if I should try somewhere different? I hear bad things about Bulgaria.

But I think Andorra was a brilliant introduction, it was right for me.

I like Andorra, Soldeu is good. I'd say no to Bulgaria for all the reasons stated on other threads. There are lot's of bargains about at the moment so the skiing world is your oyster at the moment. :D

Please don't take my banter seriously, I have friends that board and my brother is a snow board instructor we all give as good as we get!

This is totally down to personal choice. For me, there's so many places I want to visit, non-ski related too, so will very rarely choose to go back to the same place twice (I have just done exactly this but we'll ignore that). Once I'm satisfied that I've ticked enough boxes then I may settle a bit more. Saying that, if it's what you're comfortable and happy with then go for it. Bulgaria's not hugely popular on this forum but there's masses more places to look at if you decide to go somewhere different.

Absolutely! I took it all in good humour, so no worries :D

I'm going to wait a few more weeks and see what further deals appear, would be really good to get away from the UK this year, especially if it's ski related!

So much to choose from!

We've just had a long (although not as long as planned) weekend in Alpe d'Huez, we're going back at the beginning of next month...It was fabulous there, I can't wait. Got a boarder coming with us too, he's going to absolutely love the off piste opportunities.

Hi Ashman, welcome to the forum.

I follow caron-a's advice, and tend to try different resorts whenever possible. If you find something you really like, you can always go back later, and it will be better than before if you had a dodgy trip somewhere else first

I'm just about to do my first trip to Andorra, but I do like Italy for the friendliness of the people. France is great for huge ski areas, but I would not want to go to France during holiday periods. I can also give a massive thumbs up to Canada and Nth America. I also want to try Switzerland and Austria sometime soon.

Now you may think I'm being really general with those comments, but I guess that is the point. There are so many different resorts, and so much variety in those resorts, that at the end of the day as long as the snow is there, you should be able to have a good time wherever you go. It all comes down to personal choice.

I have also just come back from Alpe d'Huez. One of our party was a boarder who before hand moaned nothing in Europe is as good as Canada - he ate his words at AdH and admitted the snow there was better than Canada (though we did have a very lucky week with the weather) and said the on and off piste just as good too.
