You should be fine most places in late March, it's a fantastic time of year to be skiing.
I would recommend Montgenevre, but there are a lot of other places around.
Ski-wise, don't go for big expensive resorts as you won't make the most of them, that includes Chamonix. However, you get better nightlife in the bigger resorts. It depends how 'happening' you want the resort to be and how correspondingly fat your wallet is.
