I really would like to find some high altitude ski in ski out accomodation on this occasion but Megeve is on my to do list at some point.

From your original 2 choices of destination, having visited both, I think you'll get ski in/out in Avoriaz, but will struggle to achieve this in Flaine. There is some new development in Flaine which might make this work, so choose carefully. Both resorts have lots of high rise apartment blocks, both are beginner friendly. As you want high mileage, I'll not suggest Grimentz for your sister, which has lovely beginner slopes and a choice of supportive ski schools, with British ski teachers available.
