I must admit I was a bit worried about the track myself, but I phoned them up and it's okay - the steam engine will run on a normal gauge railway track :D
Seriously though, I wish they'd bring back the Raileurope direct sleeper/party train to the Alps. They say it was economic reasons that forced them to stop running it, but I can't see why, unless it was because they needed to buy new replacement carriages. The Eurostar sitting up all night direct train seems to sell okay, and I would have thought people would much rather travel in a sleeper train.

Hi,
Interesting chat:)
I am to considering going to on the overnight Eurostar snow train.
Do you actually get 2 full extra days of skiing or is it only 2 extra half-days?
How much more do you pay for the ski passes for the extra days say in 3 Valleys or Val d'Isere?
Thanks for your help,

I LOVE going on the overnight train. We've done it for the last few years and you most definately do get an extra 2 days of skiing (as long as you aren't knackered).
You will be in resort before the lifts open on Saturday and won't leave until well after the lifts close the following Saturday.
Lift passes would only be about an additional 40 euros for the extra 2 days (depending on where and when you go).
Absolutely worth doing.

Hi Nelly,
Thanks for the info.
2 full extra days of skiing does sound great, I am almost bought.
I take it the transfer from a train station to a resort is pretty quick?
Is it possible to get a nap on the train or is it too noisy/shaky?
Have you traveled with Crystal or any other ski operators or dierctly with Eurostar?
Do they make any provisions for using hotel/chalet bathroom/shower after returning from skiing on the last Saturday?
Now the only small problem left is to persuade my wife:)

The transfers are very short, I think the longest is about an hour, depends where you're going. If you go to Val Disere its about 40 mins.
You can sleep on the train but it is only in a seat, if you're lucky you might get into a carriage with 'sensible' people who don't want to get hammered and party the night away (as we had one year), we took a bottle of wine (or two) had a little drink and got excited about arriving then had a few hours sleep, its a nice way to travel, we found that the excitement of arriving kept us going through Saturday. We've only ever gone on the train with a TO (Crystal).
We have been quite lucky with having somewhere to change at the end of the last Saturdays ski, you are still on holiday so there shouldn't be any reason why you can't go back to the hotel/chalet even if its just to have a quick wash!

Many thanks!
It looks as if it is already too late for our first trip this season in early January according to Crystal website :(
All overnight seats booked already???
Never mind.
