The wings didnt fall off. The engine didnt blow up. The pressurisation didnt fail. It was a crappy old plane that is in need of upgrading, and there were some technical faults.
Im sure that all those things applied too on all the planes that have crashed killing 1000's of people previously. Does it take one of these things falling out of the sky to open your eyes Tony?
Sure, a maggot in and apple or a broken seat is not going to bring a plane down but if corners and costs are cut on such basics then don't you find youself asking if they are all that competent in other, more critical, areas ?????
They have standards to meet in order to fly. Yes they may be heaps of sh1te but they are worthy of flying. They have to be tested by the pilot before each flight.
Planes that fall out of the sky do so for a multitude of reasons, not one. A culmination of events if you like. The 737 had its fair share of problems in the 80s with rudders jamming in certain wind conditions, but apart from that it has a good track record. UK airlines are subject to as stract checks as anywhere in the world. Broken seats and maggots in apples do not make them not worthy of flying.
I have flown on some old bangers in my time, but never did I feel at risk or that the thing was about to drop out of the sky.....planes just dont do that.
Flying is the safest from of transport. When it rarely goes wrong, its generally catastrophic, point taken. But planes DO NOT just drop out of the sky.
