chaletslovakia wrote:'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' by Stieg Larsson. Don't normally do thrillers after attempting Dan Brown and (even worse) Clive Cussler but this Swedish novel is as good as the hype...

Tino11 let me know if that Conrad book is any good - I just finished a modern Congo book (Blood River) that was excellent. If you like travel try Jonny Bealby

I've read it many times and get something new from it each time, definately reccomended!

You know,
It's a very odd thing, but everyone seems to be reading a different book. And what's even more odd, is that out of all the books everyone's reading, I've only ever heard of one of the author's before - Tino's Conrad book.

I tried to read a Conrad book once, when I was young, and decided it was completely impossible to read. It's like there are so many 'big' words in it that you completely lose the story - the words replace the plot. And yet, I managed to read Anna Karenina several times, plus various other classics.

Am I the only person who hasn't heard of these books/authors before? Are the majority of them modern books (I have been living in a cave for the last 30 years)?
