I want to go skiing during the Feb half term. I am a teacher and it is my only option! I just wanted to know if anybody can comment on last minute availability. We are looking at booking at the end of January and just wanted to know if there would be some cheap deals on offer?

It is possibly the busiest time of year, start looking now to avoid disapointment

We also have to ski at Feb half-term, and as Ian says it is the busiest week in the whole ski season, so prices are at their highest.

I am sorry to say that I don't think you will find any cheap last minute deals for that week, although I may be wrong, of course. We go to France and the prices start now at around £1000 per person for a catered chalet, plus you have to add on another £200 or so for lift passes.

I have noticed that transport usually runs out first, and if you can get flights and transfers ahead of time there is usually self-catering accommodation available in resort, through the local tourist board for example.

if you want to do it independently it is probably best to book you transport early as that will be the bottleneck in terms of price and availability.

I suggest you go where the English crowds don't. You might then be able to get some late deals on accommodation. German Bavaria, Scandinavia?

I've heard that the British companies have reduced their capacity this year (it may just be a rumour).

Good Luck

It's a busy week with the British Tour operators.

If you book independantly in somewhere off the Brit trail you might get a bargain. This may be easier if you are driving down as the flights are likely to be busy.

You're right - both accommodation and flights have been reduced this year - flights by up to 33% in fact.
Therefore there is less likely to be spare capacity and the subsequent late deals as peak weeks will sell out.
Basic rule for me: if you HAVE TO go at these times, decide where you want to go, forget how much you are going to have to pay, and book it to avoid disappointment.
I do feel sorry for teachers who cannot go out of school holiday time, and end up on packed slopes with thousands of small children, and all at massively inflated prices. My worst nightmare.

V5694 Sadly Half-Term is the most expensive time to go and prices rarely get much cheaper and have indeed sadly gone up this year. You may strike luck on a last minute deal but probably not worth the stress.

We are running a catered group chalet trip to Les Menuires at Half-Term this year which is part of the 3 valleys ski area which may be of interest to you.

Our price is £975 which includes Full 8 day extensive lift pass travel by coach from our base, breakfast, 3 course dinner with wine or beer. Staying in 4 recently built Chalets located in a quiet spot close to the shops and ski lifts.

PM me or see website address in signature for more details. If not of interest I hope you find a good deal and have a great trip

Read my posting below - it is on the page if general chatter. You should be able to do a week
for about £300 each ferry/fuel self cater appt
in austria if 4 of you are travelling together.
It might be a bit of a hike to get there but if you want cheap it might be your only option.
