Hello!

This is my first post :)

I'm trying to organise a ski holiday with just me and my boyfriend, but the problem is that he's a beginner snowboarder (had a few lessons at snow dome but never on "proper" snow), and I've been skiing about 8 times, so am reasonably competent.

He'll need lessons, but I don't want to be stuck skiing on my own every morning. I don't mind joining an advanced group or something.

What would be the best sort of holiday to book? Are there any all inclusive ones which cover everything? We have quite a reasonable budget, so price isn't too much of an issue, and we're looking to go mid-March.

I'm also quite lazy, so prefer places where I can ski to the door.

Can anyone give me any recommendations of where to start looking?!?! I prefer France as I can speak the language.

Thank you in advance,

Gadgetgirl

If price isn't an issue France is your oyster.

Alternatively you could learn to snowboard too

lol well I have my own ski boots that are SO comfortable, so I think I'd prefer to stick to the skiing!

Plus I frequently see snowboarders having to "scoot" or walk along flat bits - that looks FAR too much like hard work!! Maybe next year!

Are club med any good?

Hi gadgetgirl79, and welcome to the forum.

My initial thoughts are to suggest using one of the big TO's who do ski guiding for their guests.

This way, you oh can get lessons boarding, and you can hopefully ski with a suitable group and a rep, who will show you round the mountains. It is often that after a few days, friendships develop with other skiers and then you can make your own plans.

Another option might be to book a room in a chalet, and hope that you can make friends with the other guests, and ski with them. Better yet, do a chalet room with a TO doing guiding.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies!

Who would the main TO's be?

I went with Thomson to Cervinia, but was meeting up with 40 others, so didn't require lessons! I've just priced up a holiday, and it comes to about £1500 a person, which seems quite a lot! I was hoping for under £1300pp.

This is actually my first couples holiday! :o

I've just booked up with UCPA for a week all-inclusive, ski/out, in Flaine. For approx €600 I've got meals, all equipment hire, lift pass, and lessons. The offer the packages with or without lessons, and you can ski or snow board. Have a look on www.ucpa.com (or http://www.action-outdoors.co.uk/ if your French isn't great- book through UCPA though cos I think it's a bit cheaper).

Lessons are split by skill level, so you could both go off for a couple of hours each morning with appropriate groups at your level, then meet up at lunch.

Nielson are quite good for young people - my son went with them to Deux Alpes over New Year - they organised pub crawls and allsorts. As Far Queue says a catered chalet usually has some guiding included. Pleisure Holidays in Courchevel Le Praz specialise in snowboarding and are young person orientated and offer guiding. http://www.pleisure.co.uk/about.html

I have looked at some of the deals atm and If you are not tied to school holidays wait for one -

http://uk.holidays.travelzoo.com/ski-and-snow/

Scroll down and there is a £299 holiday to Banff departs 27 January - some other good catered chalet deals too - don't pay £1500!!!

Thanks again for all your help! I'm currently looking through all the links.

We're in our early and mid(ish) 30s if that classifies as young?!?
