I stayed in Ljubliana and Bled last New Year.

Ljubliana is the capital of Slovenia and is not far from Kravavec ski resort. Kravavec was a great place to go and I had a lot of fun for a couple of days there. There's an easy nursery slope for complete beginners, a pleasant blue slope and a few steeper trickier reds. There's an early morning and late afternoon ski bus to get to the resort from Ljubliana bus station which takes about 50 mins. Being the capital, there's a lot of restaurants, bars and shops in Ljubliana and it's an interesting place to wander around in the evening. It's very prettily decorated around New Year time too.

Bled is a pleasant, picturesque village to visit on a lake. There's a small, local ski resort, but there wasn't much skiing to be had when I was there because it was too low level and things were melting somewhat then! I've heard there are other resorts not far away from there. Otherwise there are many pleasant walks to be had around the lake, or a boat trip out to the island which I recommend.

That's really interesting to know, my cousin has just bought a house 4 miles from the Austrian border in Slovenia and 15 mins drive from that ski resort and I was unsure about what it would be like. Happy (free) skiing holiday here I come :D Thanks!
