A group of 8 of us have skied Andorra(pas de la casa) the last 3 years ,so we are after a change.I'm after some recommendation for 2013 ,I was thinking possible Italy as lift passes,ski hire etc seem a little cheaper.
We are all blue/red run skiers/boarders and have been drawn towards sestriere and surrounding areas due to transfer times

2013 bring it on!! Planning is underway.
If you exclude PDS (only reason i go there is free accomodation), but if you look at historical records they are the best places in Europe for snow and also snow certainty.

Not a bad choice but you may well find that Sauze D'oulx is a better option. Not only is it a far "nicer" place to stay in as it has a bit of character unlike Sestriere but it has other options for bad weather. For instance if the WX is REALLY poor you can just go to the railway station 2 miles down the hill and go for a posh day in Turin for about 10 Euros.
Sauze is on the same circuit as Sestriere which allows you access to Sansicario, Montgenevre and Claviere. Lots of blues and reds and the blacks are not that severe either.

I'll second Sauze apart from the issues with snow fall there. Nice village, plenty going on, cheap, quiet cruising slopes, good links to other areas including Sestriere, 90 minute transfer.
Alternatively consider Serre Che in France just down the valley, much nicer and fantastic skiing, with better snow.

Cool, we looking at 2013 already :thumbup:
I am going to venture away from 3V, Killy, PDS and try somewhere new. Those areas are just far too expensive. But on the other hand they are the most reliable for snow :roll:

There is and alternative...go by car and stop in the middle ...Taninge is 15 minutes from the PDS and Grande Massiff as well as a few smaller resorts
and an hour from la Clusaz and le Grande Bornande
or try Bourg ..directly linked with Les Arcs and not too far from anywhere else and with cheaper accommodation and reasonable restaurants
