I was going to head this note "disaster in Serre Chevalier" but thought better of it.
But there has been a major disaster this week.
My new ski boots (brown ones) have started squeaking !!!!!!!
It is awful
But having a lovely holiday all things considered.
Snow not up to much ....
Weather - pretty mixed bag
Skiing like an old donkey (actually that is unkind to donkeys as I am sure there are many who ski beautifully).
But, a week away and just what was needed. Those with long memories (a week that is) will remember I did my knee in before coming skiing - digging in the garden !!
It is holding up, but gets tired, so basically up and out, ski the mornings, nice lunch, little potter, back to hotel, sleep, swim etc etc.

Hi OldAndy,
It's very kind of you to try and make those of us left behind feel better by telling us the snow's no good :D
I knew you'd done something to yourself before you left, but I didn't know it was your knee and you did it gardening
Just fancy, when I did my Worry list on Iceman's Hate Ski-ing thread loads of people were quite critical. Really, you should all have paid a lot more attention to it! Worry number one was getting hurt beforehand so I couldn't go
If you'd been paying attention to my list you would never have been digging in the garden
And you're not the only one - Tony and Ian hurt themselves ahead of time as well - I wonder how they got on?
Anyway, I'm glad you had a good time in spite of everything :D

Well that's it for this year
Boots in bag etc.
But an excellent day to finish on, early start, slopes empty and lovely and sunny. Full report next week when at home.
But an interesting learning moment when I took my hire skis back.
I had broken them !!!!!
Very clearly about 30cm back from the tip on one side of one ski - it looked like it had developed a rocker during the week.
Never mind, I had insurance with the shop so nothing to do but apologise.
No clear idea when but this could explain a few interesting runs yesterday and today. I had a few runs when I really couldn't ski for toffee - put this down to tiredness and a dodgy knee. But I now reckon this was when that broken side was on the inside.
Today I pootled down a lovely quiet black on good snow in a very tidy way and then stopped for a drink ....
Next run on an easy red - unbelievable!!!!!
Just going all over the place no matter how "controlled" I tried to be. I think I must have swapped the edges/skis over.
Anyway I am sticking with this explanation of poor skiing.
