I try to get away three or better still four times a year but not being a Euro Lottery winner I have to work and keep a eye on costs.

Every year it seems to get more difficult. Everyone I know is married, worse they have children and even worse are unhappily divorced.

This year my mum was ill, my employer has been awkward and the price of ski holidays seems to be really high. So been Livigno in January and desperately looking for at least another week.

Came across a holiday at a bargain price on Thursday. Hotel has good reviews, do not need a second mortgage for lift passes, snow good, rang the agent up, is it really that price, yes book it now he told me. Yet I needed to get time off work! Rang my boss, he was not in, left begging messages on his home answer machine, pleading messages, cried, offered him sex but he did not reply, but his wife cried too.

Got a email from him this morning, yes you can go.

Interestingly he declined an offer to come with me, as did all my friends, dad, sister, sister said I could not take my 9 year old niece.

Rang the nice man up at the travel agent who told me the holiday is now sold out at that price and would be almost double.

Oh b****y h**l Bonfire.
You must be gutted.

But - you have the holiday authorised now so keep looking!

I was first allowed to take niece sking when she was 12 - we had a great time, she still talks about that trip and she's 25 now.

Bonfire - first let me share your irritation about losing the holiday. Its happened to me a few times.
However, your post read like a Ronnie Corbett story in the chair the way it all came to that ending!

So, now you've got the time off ok'd, keep searching as something will come up. You need that 2nd trip, I can feel it.

Out of interest, what was the deal you were going to go for and to where? When are you looking to go.....TH might be able to come up with some ideas )

Can you rent an apartment in a resort and just go bypassing the travel agent? Couple years ago I rented for a week in Chamonix a nice studio next to Brevent for 250 euros. Checking resorts websited for classified adds might help.

Thanks everyone, pleased it came across as light hearted because while I am p off, as said these things happen.

The deal was to Passo Tonale and came out at at £425 HB at the Panorama. The agent says the prices have gone up due to a surge of enquiries although they say there is still a lot of availability for that week so maybe it will come down.

Used to do this a few years ago when I used to go in a group, but it works out more expensive when your on your own. Although if nothing comes up in the next few day I might try and go after Easter Holidays and as the travel agents don't do ski holidays, it will have to be a DIY job. Any ideas anyone, not Switzerland not that rich!

Don't understand why her parents are not allowing her to have a free fun holiday, especially as they are not going away this year.
