Hi all,

Well i'm finally taking the plunge and am looking to buy some ski boots for this season. I currently live in Bordeaux so was hoping to get something here before i head off to Vars in January - but as i've not been in France long i have no idea where to go - on the off chance that anyone else does i'm asking the question. If not, is it a good idea to wait until the mountain and speak to the guys there? What i want is to make sure i get some proper advice to get the right boot and not be palmed off with just anything - i've been saving a few years for these so want them to be fab!

Also, advice on make, model (for a girl that gets cold feet!) and anything else really would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance
Sarah

My advice is don't do what my girlfriend did and buy a pair of boots that felt like slippers when she first put them on, she found they were fare to lose and she had no control.

I would say a pair of Ski boots are meant to feel like a firm hand shake.

On make and model, it all depends on your feet shape and your skiing style and ability.

I have only ever bought one pair of boots and that was a few weeks ago so I am no expert, I read a lot of forums and tried a lot of boots on before making my choice.

My experience of buying boots is a good as I had a good boo fitter my girlfriends not so as her boot fitter wasn't so good
and she bought the wrong boots but she was lucky as Ellis Brigham changed them.

Sorry if this isn't much help.

Matt

I did a season last year and bought my first pair of boots out there - I was working in a bar there and managed to speak to one of the ski shops who fitted me several pairs of boots, and then let me try his rental pairs over a few days and decide which pair I liked the best! All the ski guys were really helpful and if possible to do that perhaps do something similar - or even rent them and buy online if it is cheaper. Was great service and I love my boots - couldnt be happier :)

Sarah,

i can't recommend you anywhere in your location or the resort you are going to, but if you can spare the time to do this properly you most definitely should, if you can i would get to Chamonix and go see Jules Mills or his associate Damien Amblard at Sanglard Sports he can be contacted via his own site www.thebootroom.fr ignore the racing bit of the website, you WILL need an appointment to see them but they will make sure you have the best boots possible for your feet.

good luck getting sorted and ask away if you have any questions
