Hi BK

I find www.skiwelt.at/en very good for snow reports, webcams etc.

Right now, its showing 45cm up the mountain, 30cm lower down, and only 5 cm at the valley/town. Latest snow was yesterday, but J2ski 7 day forecast thinks thats it for the week!

While it is a low resort, my experience has been typically good snow in March. Problem is, this is not a typical season.

Fingers crossed for you.

Hey RS

I have been checking the Skiwelt site constantly and was a little worried they were glossing over true conditions!!

you say its not a typical season? How so?

Not so used to skiing in warmer conditions! Any advice?

Hi BelleKristin

While mid-March can be a bit tricky in the Skiwelt, they do a great job on piste management. I was there a few weeks ago and it had been a couple of weeks since they had had any snow. Conditions were still super right down to valley level. I filed a report here:

Not sure how much snow fell over the weekend but I would be very surprised if you did not have pretty decent conditions though you should probably expect some slush and some icy patches at that time of the year.

Hope it works out for you.

From where I am just now, I can see all of the skiwelt, except Ellmau and Going.
Westendorf is predominantly north facing, and as such has good wide snow cover. Hopgarten and Itter are green, except that the runs down are covered with cannon snow.
I can see the Soll and Sceffau, but only a side view, they look OK, and certainly the main runs have cover. The forecast is for a weeks sun, which is not an issue for here, as we have good snow. My bet is that the main runs will have enough coverage for you to ski on, and there is plenty of time for it to snow.

Much of central Austria is struggling anywhere below 1500m, and even higher than that conditions are difficult to say the least. Another week of bright sun won't help.

Just spoke with a ski instructor friend of mine in Soll, they are expecting snow tonight, fingers crossed, and ski conditions are very good upto roughly 3pm, where it starts to get a little slushy due to volume of skiers. Snow management team coping well with conditioins. Next week is to be quieter than this week, but still busy enough for St Patricks week......so to hell with it, I'm going on Saturday!!
