Well having come back from Turin on Sunday, I can confirm that Thomas Cook airlines(Nielson as the TO) pretty much don't car what your ski stuff weighs.
The 3 of us who took ski bags all had bags weighing between 8 and 12kg and the ladies on the check-in desks (both in Manchester and Turin) didn't bat an eyelid. It seems strange that their policy wording says 6kg but in reality they don't bother to check. Maybe its just so not too many people take very heavy bags. On a slightly different note, Turin airport is rubbish! 3 flights from different english airports all landed at the same time with at least 100 people waiting for ski/board bags. The outsize luggage area is a single conveyer belt that just comes out of the wall (not in a loop). This means that if the 8 ski bags on the belt don't belong to someone stood there, the rest of the bags don't come out until they have all been claimed. People were also not willing to pick up the bags and prop them against the wall so that more bags could be sent out. This mess cost us our sunday afternoon skiing which was rubbish. |

I definately agree about Eggalm, it was so quiet when I went a few weeks back, and some great skiing to be had on the way to get to it. |

Come on - admit it - who is still using old fashioned skis?

If you work on getting the skis wide apart, i'll do my best to sort out her hip counter!
That is pretty much the best picture I have ever seen. |

Hi All,
Off to La Thuille in 2 weeks with the GF and her familly and the weight for ski bags on the plane is 6kg. My Nomads and 2 sets of poles are 9.5kg so will have to pay an excess charge. 6kg seems pretty low to me as even my tiny 155cm slalom skis are over 5kg. Are airlines being realy stingy and making everyone pay an excess or have I just got heavy skis?! Does anyone have any idea how much the excess weight charge will be? And does the cost go up per extra kg? If it is a flat charge, I may as well take 2 sets of skis with me anyway. Annoying! Tom |
