my favourite time of year is here again and I can't wait to get by board strapped on. Anoyone know what the conditions are like in La Rosiere? Last year it was amazing, although Chamonix was a bit thinn in April, but I'm hoping the long cold winter here in blighty means that the Alpes have remaineed cold and snowy.
Please, someone, give me some good news. Tell me about powder. |

Might be worth it but I've found it's my fitness which deserts me over time, not techique. Last year I was in your position, having skiied many times but out of practice. I went to the gym to get my fitness up and found that one day on the lower slopes got me right back into the groove. Doing work on your legs might therefore be a more cost -effective way of preparing.

Looks like the Gods are taking note of the banter in this forum. When I wrote my posting called 'Alps' I was facing the prospect of having to tell my group of beginners to bring some walking boots and T-shirts to the slopes.
Admin predicted a dip in temperatures and every day since the seven-day weather forecast has contained at least six days of predicted snow. In Serre chevalier - highest run about 1500m - 20 - 25 cms predicted to fall before next wednesday, and the tempeatures look like sustaining it. I suggest anyone worried about snow should post their concerns on this forum and let Admin work his magic. |

can't thank you enough Admin. Will let you know how things turn out. I've seen the glacier at les deux which is 15kms away.

thanks for the replies which were extremely helpful. I'm off to serre chevalier in two weeks. 1500m is about as high as it gets I'm afraid. Where can I obtain a 7-day forcast from? I only seem to be able to find up to six days?
many thanks, james |

Can anyone report on the conditions of the Alps this month? From what I have read conditions are just about impossible below 1500m, and even beginners have to go above that level. I am aware that the last thing anyone who has had an awful holiday wants to do is talk about it on this forum but it really would help me as I have a number of beginners in my group who I need to accommodate.
Weather resorts for the Alps this week couldn't be much worse, with few temperatures below freezing and zero snow fall. Moving resorts is an expensive option but one I should consider. The question is therefore, having been to the Alps this year, would you recommend it? Thank you in advance. |
