This will be the Atomic in the larger size -

Ally - the two different sizes recommended to me were for exactly the same boot at two different shops.

Hi Silverflora,
All I can say is that one of the bootfitters didn't know his/her job

But of course I don't know which one is right!

However, the general advice is to go for the smallest boot, as long as it's not so tight it hurts your feet, because they will become 'baggier' as you ski in them.

I have a narrow foot and the Atomic Hawx 90 fits me fine :)

Best of luck with whichever boot you buy, and I hope have a great holiday!
Drink prices in resorts 2013

On our recent holiday to Tignes I found the prices varied very much from restaurant to restaurant, but were generally higher in the mountain restaurants as compared to down in the villages.

Up the mountain in the Tete de Solaise restaurant above Val d'Isere:
One large hot chocolate = 6.00 euros
One small coffee = 2.80 euros

Down in Tignes Lavachet in Le Brassero restaurant:
25cl Perrier = 3.00 euros
One hot chocolate = 3.00 euros

Up on the Grande Motte Tignes, from the outside bar of the Panoramic restaurant:
Small coffee = 2.50 euros
Tea = 3.50 euros
Hot chocolate = 4.00 euros

Do you mean they recommended different sizes for the same boot, or different sizes for different boots?
From what I understand of boot fitting, different makes of boots vary in things like how wide they are etc. so you might very well take a different size in a different make of boot.
I found my Atomic Hawx boots very comfy from the beginning, and I was rather worried about this, because everyone kept telling me they should feel too tight at first otherwise they would become too 'baggy' after a few weeks of ski-ing in them.

But I have skied for several weeks in them now, and they still fit. I had them checked again for size recently by Profeet, and they are still fine, and I have had no problems with them.

So I don't really know the answer to how tight they should feel at the beginning :(
Hi Silverflora,
The most important thing is to get boots that fit you properly, and I shouldn't imagine anyone here can tell you which pair of boots actually fits you better, via the internet!

I bought the Atomic Hawx 90 boots myself, about 3 years ago, and I am very pleased with them, but it doesn't mean they are the right boot for you.

I went to a lot of trouble (and expense) to have my boots professionaly fitted, and I wrote up an account of it here:

I would definitely agree with Old Andy about the importance of being able to round up teenagers!

I would say a hotel near the slopes is really important. And allowing them to ski all over the place into areas where they can't get back when the lifts shut is really NOT a good idea!

My daughter's uni group got locked out of Tignes last year (they were in Val and missed the last lift back and had to pay for the last bus back), and then this year they nearly got stuck in Meribel when they were staying in VT - luckily they made it back to Les Menuires and then had to pay for a bus to get back to Val Thorens.

Quite honestly I think a smallish self-contained resort would be a much better idea - somewhere like a cheaper version of Obergurl.
