I'm self employed (in a husband and wife business partnership) and I do know what i earn. It does require a spreadsheet or two being constantly updated, one logging expenses and one logging fee invoicing and predicted fees.

We're VAT registered though and I do have to keep reminding myself that the VAT is not ours to keep........

After 7 years, I've still not got used to twice yearly tax bills. So much easier when it's taken at source.

....and I've priced Jet2 from Leeds to geneva but an eye watering £1,500 for the 4 of us. I might as well fly from my local airport (humberside) via Amsterdam for £1,300!

I once got asked where I worked, when I said I worked for McDonalds a fellow guest asked how I could afford to go on a skiing holiday. This pompous teacher got a shock when I told him the drug dealing and armed robberies I do every year financed the holidays and did not speak to me for the rest of the week. Some people just don't get sarcasm!

Now of course the cool response would have been, "oh that's jolly interesting. Class A, B or C or all three?"

I skied that run in January.

Pretty bumpy and steep in places and some icy patches but certainly not an extreme piste by any means.

Just a stark reminder of the dangers of this pastime/sport.
