We will be driving out to Megeve for the week which normally gives us an extra day and a half of skiing over those that fly out to the same holiday and thats partly why we drive. The other reason is to avoid the airport at geneva.
This year having the car with us could turn out to be a huge plus as while we normally park it and don't touch it until its time to go home, this year we may look to drive from Megeve to somewhere much higher like Chamonix. Anyone got any recomendations for a higher resort thats not to far driving wise from Megeve or indeed where to go in the Chamonix area as i've not been there before. |

Is anyone on here out in Megeve at the moment working or due to go out there this coming week on holiday (13th Jan).
We are driving out for a weeks skiing and judging by the forecasts and the webcams on megeve.com the conditions are becoming poor. I know over the christmas period that the Mont Arbois and Rochebrune lost nearly all their snow with rain but the dump just after new year i thought would set up Megeve with a base for the rest of the season. Little did i know that freezing levels would rise well over 3000m for many days and some nights with temps up to 8C in january? Looking at the forecasts there is little or no snow forecast for the rest of this week and into next so to say i'm getting depressed sitting here in the UK is an understatement. Its a horrible feeling sitting at home with freshly serviced Rossignols 9SO's watching the brown patches appearing everywhere on the Megeve web cams, of which there are many. So any news for those enjoying whats left even if its slush? I think this season is going to have a huge effect on all the low resorts for 2007/2008 as i can see many who like the chic resorts and tree lined runs spending their money elsewhere and that elsewhere having most of its runs over 2500m. Has there actually been a season in recent memory thats started as bad as this one? |
