I agree with all Ian has said.
If you want a bespoke holiday, do the research and book yourself. For an average off the peg, no worries 7 day break, go with a tour company. Trying to do things 'on the cheap' almost always dont work out that way!!! |

Just as a counterpoint to Ian W's entertaining thread.
I'll start with Gail Trimble - a twentysomething who knows that things happened in the world before she was born!!!!!!!!! :D |

Just back from an utterly fantastic 10 days in Soldeu. Snow was brilliant. Powder days and cordurouy days!!
Unless there is a significant heatwave they have more than enough snow to last through to April!! Dont worry. And the food in the Bruxelles is brilliant!! :D |

A hockey stop is an abrupt stop an Ice Hockey player will execute to stop him colliding with the wall, another player or the ref!!!!
A kind of 'whizzy stop' on ice!!! :D |

I agree with Ise. Hockey stops are a useful learning tool, but shouldnt really be used in free skiing unless in emergency!!!! :!:
As Ise says, you should be working on finishing the turn, and also on rounding the turn rather than a hockey stop which is abrupt and V-shaped. Try to ski more smoothly, rounding the turn and gently transferring the weight from inside to outride ski. This should control your speed on most terrain. Its all about ski - ING!! ie one movement should lead to another, rather than a stopping and starting movement. |
