It's called the Hennu Stall (chicken coop).

It's usually pretty lively, often has live music and you can get 11 shots for CHF 50.

What the burghers of Saas Fee (less than half of the population) actually voted for was to lease a parcel of land near the car park at the entrance to the village together with the restaurants at Spielboden and Längfluh to the lift company for a period of 30 years at CHF 169,000 per year.

The first stage of the project, which comprises a new lift from the car park to Längfluh, a new restaurant at Längfluh and a ski test centre is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2012/2013 winter season at a cost of 68 million CHF. They also plan to increase the price of lift tickets by about 5%.

The second stage involves building a tri-cable gondola from Längfluh to the Feejoch at 3826m (it will probably be built somewhere between the Feejoch and the Feekopf at 3888m) at a cost of 40 – 45 million. As yet no date has been set for its construction. There are also plans for a link to Täsch.

They hope that the new investment will stop the fall in the number of skier days, which is down from 695,376 in 1998 to 471,731 in 2009/10 a reduction of about 32%.
New skis

The short ones are real skis, wood core sandwich construction with sidewalls and sintered bases. They make a wide range of carving skis up to a massive 12m radius ) . Most of Lustis production goes to the major Austrian brands, their own brand skis are only marketed in the Czech Republic, but they will ship abroad. They are extremely good value £275 will get you a FIS spec racing ski. Perhaps the most interesting ski in the range is the tiny Giraffe 70cm/1.5m, which they say can be used to teach children from the age of 3 to carve.

Obviously the DPS is much more interesting, especially the Wailer / Yvette 112RP I'm surprised that Bandit doesn't already have a pair in her quiver.

Have a good time Alistair, hope it doesn't rain too much!

Make sure you fill up in Luxembourg, unleaded is 1.33 Euro a litre and diesel 1.15
Erner Galen was a very nice little ski area, it has an excellent snow record and a short walk from the top station gave access to some excellent powder skiing.

The plans seemed to be very ambitious for a place of that size. There is very little potential for expansion and the terrain is either almost flat or steep to very steep. It's difficult to see how they were going to link it to the other nearby resorts as they are all on the other side of the valley, the only option I can think of is by bus. The journey time to one of the resorts listed (Belalp) is about 45 mins. plus the time needed to get up to the slopes in the cable car.

It was going to be marketed as a beginners resort, but even when the exchange rate was much better it would probably still have been much more expensive than the beginner oriented resorts in Austria.

There were other problems as well as the weakness of the pound, two villagers refused to sell the land on which he hoped to build the hotel and projected cost of the hotel was much higher than he expected.

There's some info on off-piste sking in Val d'Isere here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dennis.summerbell/skiing/valintro.html

Another possibility would be the Monterosa Ski Area (Alagna/Gressoney/Champoluc) combined with either Verbier or Chamonix lots of off-piste (40'0000 ha) but unfortunately very little for non skiers.
One of the bidders was a German software company that wanted to rename them Ashampoo I and Ashampoo II.
