Truly Great Resorts
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 4 Replies
Sat here today and was wondering what makes for truly great resorts and then found this on youtube. Cannot think of anywhere more magical summer and winter. Amazing scenery, world class climbing, world class skiing, highest lift accessed vertical in world, decent mountain and road biking. Probably best amenities of any ski resort in world given is proper town. Added to that the unrivaled history of the valley.

Lived and skied all over world and nothing has quite same appeal.

Where else is there?

I guess real question is what you are doing in those 11 1/2 hrs. How much is spent doing non effective things e.g. commute, vs how much is working or spent on your own time e.g. gym. People use this as a measure of quality of life, how much time you can control vs world controls for you.

Try spinning class a few times a week, easy way to get fit as someone else is setting pace and much less likely you quit when in group. Perfect for baseline before adding weights later on. Lot of people rave about "insanity" and "PX90" but needs lot of self discipline.
1st physio today, 110deg flex and leg completely straight. Not bad only 4 days out from operation, am glad went with recommended surgeon even if made for additional travel. Apparently can go start spinning at 10 days which will at least give me something to focus on for next 3 months before can start jogging. Skiing mid march according to calendar.
35 deg is certainly a pretty steep slope if sustained. Level 3 seems to be almost default setting for resorts these days. You need to see specialist website which have level vs altitude and aspect to have a meaningful number. This sounds like the sort of conviction which means no more school etc ski holidays to Austria. I know Italy has started prosecuting but I think they are being bit more subjective about experience preparation etc with understanding that accidents can still happen even if you're a guide.
Decided to write a report on recovery from ACL injury (not much else to do from sofa, interestingly amazing weather In Chamonix for any hikers, climbers amongst you). Any advice more than welcome.
March 13 ACL ruptured.
Early May arthroscopy to remove scar tissue and enable leg to straighten.
June 14th reconstruction. Prior to surgery I was working pretty hard, 20min spinning every day, 1 km rowing and squats. Squats I focused on going very deep as opposed to weight. I built back up to 60KG which was comfortable for 3 x 10 reps.

3 days after surgery and am focusing on getting leg straight (I believe it is). Plenty of time with heel under a towel to get knee joint hanging and straightening. Swelling is still significant but have started to work on bending knee. Think am around 95 deg now. My next aim is to get to 110deg at which point I should be able to recommence cycling which should give an immediate boost to recovery.

Physio tomorrow.
Being found guilty seems reasonable enough but am not sure on charge as the victim is equally guilty. We have to assume that as a group they made collective decision that conditions were safe, no need for normal protocol of skiing one at a time and only once other person has reached safe area. Given slope held for first person seems had they followed above nothing would of likely happened. Transceiver in bag is just crazy, I turn on when putting on boots and turn off when removing them. For sake of few extra hr of battery anyone relying on remembering to turn on incase they go offpiste is crazy.
Ski carrying device

On the shoulder, poles strapped to skis if carrying more than one pair, same as everyone else. This is most efficient way of carrying as weight is distributed to legs and not arms. All devices I have seen, seem to involve making into a handbag with zero advantage. Golf bag might work well if comes with caddy.
