Last year the European Consumer Centres' Network produced a report on the cost skiing in 197 European ski resorts. One of the things they compared was the cost of a ski pass to kilometres of piste.

The Rossignol Avenger is called the Zenith in Europe and the range tops out with the 82 Ti Basalt.

It's a beginner/intermediate foam cored cap ski with an early rise tip. £400 seems expensive, the Dynastar OUTLAND 75 XT and Rossignol Alias 74 Carbon can be had for much less and are probably better skis.

There are no direct flights from Innsbruck to Geneva and the only door to door option would be a taxi which would cost about 1000 Euro. As well as using public transport, which would take all day and involve at least 4 changes you could take the Arlberg Express coach to Zürich airport and fly (or take the train) from there.

Apart from the 4/5 star market segment, the European skiing holiday market has been in decline for a number of years. So it is plausible that the TOs have fewer holidays on offer. Here is an overview of the situation in Austria: http://www.statistik.at/web_de/statistiken/tourismus/beherbergung/ankuenfte_naechtigungen/020992.html If you would like more detailed information, such as: 70,002 people visited Wildschönau last season (2.2% less than in 2009/2010), and 33,594 of those were from the UK, then you can find detailed reports under 'Tourismus' here: http://www.tirol.gv.at/themen/zahlen-und-fakten/statistik/publikationen
The Hotelplan Group (Inghams parent) annual reports will give you some idea of how the market in the UK has faired in the last few years http://www.hotelplan.com/en/about-us/annual-reports.aspx |

The cheapest option in November will probably be: flight to either Geneva or Zürich airport, train transfer to Zermatt using a Swiss Transfer Ticket (must be bought outside Switzerland) http://www.swisstravelsystem.co.uk/ for cheap accommodation look on the Zermatt website http://www.zermatt.ch/en/index.cfm under Your stay / Accommodation / Private rooms & Group accommodation.

You don't need to fit low profile tyres to get these things to slide, the all season M+S tyres normally fitted as standard will usually get the job done. http://www.apa.ca/tire_wintertireratings.asp (see videos at bottom) |

One of my friends had pair of these for use with his monoski, but he always used 4 clip boots with skis.
Dave Mac, did you ever try the Nava Ski System?
http://cdn.epicski.com/b/bb/bb947c99_NAVA.jpeg The boots look like they would be much better for dancing in than your current ones! |
