Each to their own, I don't really care if people want to Board, Alpine ski, Cross country, Telemark or snow shoe the common denominator is respect for other slope users and respect for the mountains

Trouble is it's Austria

Why don't you like Austria Ian?

I have to say its usually low on my list because I like the huge areas and hight in France. My first trip to the Alps was Saalbach and I really enjoyed the place but when I went to Val D'Isere I felt like I had stepped up a league with the grandeur of the mountains.

I will go to Austria again one day though

I spent three or four days there August 1999 stayed at a place called Kolsass Weer just outside Innsbruck, found the people in the village very rude and unwelcoming, I never thought I would ever experience standing at a bar and the bar person looking at me then served the person behind, I just thought it was really funny, when we eventually did get served and it took a good 10 minutes the drinks were slammed down on the bar with my change, that was just one example of our experience there was a few more.
In kitzbuhel we were looked after really well , and also in Innsbruck where we watched the eclipse in 1999 out side a photography's shop with the owner and his family who brought two glasses of champagne for myself and mrs W.
So I am not naive and pretty well travelled enough not to tar all Austrians with the same brush, that would be untrue, but that is the out of season impression I have of small town Austria, I know many of you will disagree, how I viewed it was and still do " We have put up with you during the winter, we could do without you in the summer "

Help with my shortlist

Tony_H wrote:Well its been on my list for a few years now, so its number 1 choice for Italy.

I am now looking at:

Sella Ronda area for Italy

Ischgl/Schladming/Solden for Austria

Zermatt/Laax for Switzerland

I have dismissed France out of hand as none it really compares to the above for what I want. I was seriously considering Les Arcs until I came across the bits that said it was bleak, miserable, lots of long cold lifts, plenty of queuing, and very expensive to eat/drink out and on the slopes. I guess thats much of France summarised in one sentence. Alpe d'Huez keeps appearing and then disappearing from my list, but I just cant put anything French above the above.

And then, after all thi research, the Mrs goes and finds a couple of particularly smart chalets in Verbier that she wants me to look into forher......

Getting from Munich to Worgl

Sorry to be slow in responding ~ I was making the same journey in reverse today!

There are basically two services Munich Flughaven to Wörgl.

The quickest is to change at Munich Hauptbahnhof. The connecting train then goes direct through to Wörgl. The only issie is that the change is a bit complicated, in that you have to come off the S-bahn station, up esculators, out into the street, re-enter the main rail station, and then find your platform.

The second involves two changes, Munchen Ost, and Rosenheim. At OstMunchen you go down steps, walk along to your platform and up to the connection. At Rosenheim, normally, the connecting platform is the one adjacent to that which you arrive on, ie walk two yards.

Don't worry if you seem only to have a few minutes between connecting trains, you can set your watch using the arrival times.

Cost is 29 Euro single pp. for the slow train, and 3 or 4 Euros more for the quicker train. A return fare is double.

You can buy on line, although I haven't done this. To buy at Munich Airport, follow the signs for the station. There is a ticket desk, just before the esculator down to the platform. When you buy your ticket, you will be given a detail sheet, showing arr/dep times, and arr/dep platforms.

However, this sheet does not always show the return info, so you should download this info before you leave.

You can also consult the DeutscheBahn website, but this has been undergoing recent change, so may be a bit iffy.

Any other queries, fire away.

The train too much of a pain

mostly, unless weight and speed are issue for a tour and then I don't

Do you wear one because you ski off Piste more than on, it is just a matter of interest really as I ski 80% on piste but if I was to ski more off piste I think I would be more tempted to wear one.
