How can holidays and flights be too cheap

It's too late of course to put right but aviation fuel should have been taxed in the same way that other forms of transport are. It creates inequality in the market place and unrealistic expectations for the general populace. For example, no one can convince me that a flight to Dublin for a one night stag do is acceptable. If it costs say £150 pp then fair enough, but not £30. And I mean acceptable in terms of sustainability in the long term. Planes need kerosene and kerosene derives from crude oil which is a finite resource. Crude oil costs can only go one way. There will ultimately be a "correction" and people's aspirations will have to drop. Unfortunately the transition will be very painful.

That's enough deep thinking. Now where's that bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, flown in cheaply on my behalf.

One of our lads died when he hit a truck at 70mph, feel so sorry for his family.
The saddest part was that he called in sick this morning but somehow ended up at work. I really hope pressure was not placed on him to turn in, I am sure his manager must be feeling incredibly guilty whatever the circumstances.

Just goes to show how fragile life can be so make the most of it.

That's terrible. :(

You never know what's round the corner in this life.

Are we not already there?

Now taking the thread completely off topic -

Isn't the greatest threat to ski holiday prices of fuel.

Five years ago I could jump on an aircraft for £10 and go away for a weekend. Now I work all year and look for last minute deals to afford my three or four weeks on the slopes.

The way things are going holidays will only be available to the very well off again. The Victorians could at least afford to go to Blackpool on a train, but the prices of train fairs these days will probably mean that will not be possible.

Holidays and flights got far too cheap in the mid 90's and then into the Noughties.

I've just booked flights to Geneva for a family of 4 and I think £80 each (incl baggage) is incredibly good value.

I remember saving up for a return flight to Los Angeles in 1988 - pretty sure I paid around £325 which I thought was decent value (and I was a University student at the time) . Skyscanner is showing return flights to LA today at £386. Therefore, despite recent rises, flights are still very very good value for money.

Unfortunately everyone has got used to too much stuff, whether that constitutes 2 holidays a year, a big telly, an ipad, a coffee a day at Starbucks etc etc.

I think I've seen that clip before and the guy doing the filming crashes towards the bottom of the run.

Right then bedrock !!!

What size is your chain saw ??

That's more like it - proper wibble.

Errrrmmm........ I'm not sure without going out to the workshop (and I'm not that sad). I think it's a Husqvarna 345 with an 18 inch bar? I love my chainsaw. Got padded trousers (blue like snapzzz), a matching orange lid and special gloves. Had to clear a fallen tree so we could get out of our drive in the bad winter 2 years ago. Magic

Hah !!!!!! Not a real chainsaw man if you do't know your bar size

But mine is only a 16" McCulloch

Bet you have a 14lb sledgehammer as well .......

But I have a 30cc brushcutter
and a 21" walk behind mower......
and a 15" flymo
and a 4hp outboard :D

for the uninitated bedrock and I are playing top trumps with garden machinery .........
He is winning so far

Of course I have a sledgehammer.

I don't have a mower fetish though - why do you need three of them? Also you'd be there all day trying to cut grass with an outboard. :)

Not as back for the car but for the mower (which takes 7.5 litres), chainsaw and strimmer.

Never had any trouble filling them up before now but bet I would if i tried this week.

Right then bedrock !!!

Blimey, from the stories so far it seems things aren't too bad here in Lincolnshire.

It's all a bit ridiculous.

The U shot pole arrived today. Seems to be a good piece of kit. The end section will swivel up/down and side to side. It also has a small mirror so you can check if you are in the frame.

It has a tripod mount so should be no worries about the camera falling off.

Looking forward to using it.
