not sure how many forums i have to answer this on but ...here we go again......
the last measurements in ski boots start life in size 26/26.5 the boots reduce in width as you go down in size...now as for which boot will suit you ..impossible to say without seeing your feet but there are a few in 99mm (lange exclusive) 98mm, (lange super exclusive, atomic Renu, Atomic CS80, salomon instinct dalbello krypton) anything below that is 100% race boot now the biggest problem is what you want to do with them... all these boot shave a forward lean of between 14 and 17 degrees, this means they are designed to hold you in a flexed forward position...now there are two things which could be going on to cause a problem with this 1 you are using it for ski biking (call it what you will) this requires an upright boot so that your toes do not ram into the front of the boot due to the very nature of how you use the boots (AS A BRAKE FOR ONE) at this point do not buy a fitted ski boot, just get soemthing your feet are comfortable in. or 2 you have a limited flexion at the ankle, this will require the assistance of a fitter who understands biomechanics of the foot and ankle, you will need a footbed and probably need a heel lift and possibly the cuff ofg the boot made more upright (pretty major job) all this written on line is...well purely subjective as i have said without seeing your feet i am guessing as to what will work good luck |

ok so i am coming to this a little late (been busy tending to the feet of skiers and all that) there could be a few things going on but without seeing your feet my best guess is that as you are being pulled up the hill you are being forced forward onto the balls of your feet, the arch is being compressed into the bottom of the boot and is being stressed...so solutions 1 check that the boot is not too big (shell check, liner out feet in shells toes toeching front somewhere between 15-25mm behind your heel...this is on the generous side but you are a learner so we don't weant a race fit) 2 custom moulded (or even off the peg) footbed to help support your foot in the correct position spreadign the weight over the whole foot rather then just the bits that hit the ground 3 test your ankle flexibility are you able to get your knee past your toes when you flex without the weight coming off your heels (do this barefoot) if no then you may need a lift under the heel in your boot 4 one legged squat test..... when standing on one leg and doing a squat where foes your knee go, striaht ahead? inwards? outwards? over 80% of the american skiing public who take one lesson never ski again...of that 80% most have excessive pronation of more than 5-6degrees...in the study which was done last season in aspen all of the ski pros /racers had less than 2 degrees of excessive pronation...now is this natural selection????? |

i skied both of these last season at the UK industry test... give me the Atomic any day, it just felt so much smoother, the Nordica was nice, very precise on the edge, but the double deck on the atomic takes out that little chatter you get on injected snow

rental boots at hemel are from the Head range, it is a specific rental boot from the range and is medium to high volume fit, so if you have a long narrow feet then you will rattle around in them.... the main reason for the selection of most rental boots is to fit the majority so the people with narrow feet are generally left out...... your foot will go into it but you will have leittle or no control...if they were a narrow fit then no one with a ewide foot could wear them
if your feet are that narrow then it is probably best to get a pair of boots proberly fitted for your feet, narrow boots are less common than wider ones but there are plenty out there, more at the upper end of the market in stiffer flexes but there are a few in mid ranges. one thing you must do is may sure that you get shell checked this involves having yuor foot in the empty shell with the liner removed, there should be between 10 and 20mm max 25mm behind your heel, any more and the boot will pack out once you have skied for a week or two..... if a fitter does not shell check you then leave the store running. Also realise that a boot the correct size will probably feel too small when you try it on, your toes will hit the front ...clip the boot up top clips first, do not overtighten the lower clips and flex a few times to pull your heel into the back of the boot...only after this has been on your foot should you even consider making a judgement.... many boots often need the liner to be moulded and a good footbed to feel correct based on the linked question an your other thread..if you want someone in London then go see frank at finches or profeet (can't give you a name as the team has changed a little this year) if you are willing to travel then either lockwoods in leamington or give me a call... BTW i am fully booked for weekeds slots till mid november but we do have a few week dsy slots available good luck sorting your fitting problems Edit: just seen the last line in your first post so the above was probably a waste of typing :) |

good to know...i just don't get these places that have you walk over a pressure mat and send the data away to have an orthotic insert created...i am sure they make very good inserts for some people but i am a big fan of working with the shape of the foot to create a device to work with the foot
