You all have some SERIOUS issues!!! Here I thought Jan was a decent guy, but I guess we all have the "crudeness" deep down!

There is no way I can add anything to the level of this discussion!!! :)
Funny. I just commented on the other one - then I see this one! Right on, Pavel! All of us would reach wise decisions if we ask the proper questions. Well, maybe not ALL of us! ;) Some foolish people will still be buying Rossi Mutix for greens! Haha!

I think another one to add would be: Is it graceful? :)

The problem is: Most people DO pick a wife the same way they pick skis! "That is really good looking, and the shape is to die for! My friends will all be jealous!" What they should be thinking is: "Are the graphics that important? Will that shape really be the same in 10 years? Will I be able to trust it when the trail gets rough and steep? Will it be something I can bond with? Is it the perfect one for ME? How well can she cook. . ." Ok, so, that one is hard to compare! :) Not that appearance doesn't matter, but function and long term joy should be foremost. Maybe that is why I am still single, and love Volkl? :D

Yes, I was referring to the runs.

If you are buying used skis - just make sure they aren't abused. Topsheet scratches don't matter, but you don't want beat up edges, and gouged bases.

Not sure what you mean by the "carver" question. Are you asking what the difference between a carving ski, and an old style straight ski is?

I have the Volkl S4. I suspect that the S2 is just a more flexible ski. The S4 rocks! If you can handle blues effectively, I think you would find that it is easily within your reach. It may push you a little the first couple of times, but I think you would be happier overall. The S2 might not let you go where you want to. :)
Good post by Jan, but I would add one thing: To make sure your weight is properly forward - try to feel the front of your shin "pressing" against the tongue of your boot. All you have to do is relax your muscles, and rest against them. Here is a link which may help illustrate this point. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=41llqEmmlQI&feature=related I know it says for "advanced" skiers, but I think it just as easily can be of benefit to beginners.

Everyone is right on about ski length. I am 188cm tall, and ski 168's. Albeit, I only weigh 68kg. :) I skied some 162's at a local demo day, and loved them, too!

I will question one point from some others, and will probably take some flak for it, but. . . If your GF has a proper understanding of the mechanics of skiing, and can convey them to you in a manner you can comprehend, then I don't see why you would not be able to learn from her. :)

My Arc'Teryx Sidewinder jacket. Price is a killer, but they do think of everything. :)
