Its a bit colder, the rule of thumb of 1C per 200m or so seemed about right.

It really depends on your son, just like big people some kids run hot some run cold.
My two daughters (11 and 6 on our last hol) tend to be of the run hot variety so unless it is getting into double figures below will just have either their merino thermal tshirts (great value from Aldi!) or a lightweight fleece under their jackets and nothing under their trousers. The one day my 6 year old did put both her fleece and thermals on on the last trip (around -8C at resort level) she spent the morning skiing with her jacket unzipped before heading back to the hotel at lunchtime to loose the fleece and leggings. On the same day some of her friends were wearing pretty much every item of clothing they had and still complaining about the cold! I think the most important thing is listen to what he says and find what works for him, oh and if he is a run hot kid don't be surprised if he is asking for jacket and trousers after the first day! |

Was there Feb last year and snow was still a bit thin places but most runs and all lifts were open. There were queues of a couple of min for the chairs and bigger queues for the buttons. Huge queue to get onto the gondola first thing in the morning but after the initial rush no queue at all.

My Aldi softsheft jacket from the last year is great, easily a match for brand names at several times the price and certainly not 'basic'. Soft shell trousers from 3 years ago still going strong for snowdome and spring skiing. Picked up the kids some merino thermals today, look every bit as good as mine from last year and again a match in terms of fit fabric and performance for brand names at several times the price.

Have you looked at Hestra gloves?

Tend to have both on me whenever I'm skiing, but goggles only get used when conditions are v snowy or cold or I want to use the Contour HD. |

Aldi/Lidl sunnies for skiing, usually about £8 so no worries when I loose them in a bar, land on them when I stack it etc. Think the lidl ones (which are some of those sunnie goggle combo thingies are the best this year if you can find any still as the offer was a few weeks ago.
