Ploughed turns: try touching the outside of your ski boot with your outside hand (downhill hand) as you turn. This will help with creating the pressure on the ski required to make it turn without sliding away.

Narrow Plough: Try and hold a narrow plough shape. More difficult to hold but made easier by increasing the edge angle or lean of the skis.

Progressing from Ploughed turns: Piza and chips - Plough your turns (pizza) but then straighten them for the traverse (chips).

Parallel turns: Tantrum steps - stamp each foot whilst skiing the traverse and through the turn. A good one for anyone to try. More difficult than it sounds.

I'm no expert at all this but have spent hours watching others feeling humiliated by them all :D

Thanks! I'll try those, I've found some good begginer videos which talk about the "pizza and chips" turn you talked about although he called it a stemchrisie turn or something.

I tried the stamping thing last time just going straight down, my ski came off!! The only time I fell over was trying to get my boot back into the binding!

I'm going to the dryslope again but the lessons are all booked up so I have to go to open practice. My friends who is a good skiier is coming so he'll be able to give me a few tips.

Anyone got any tips on what I should practice?
Thanks for the replys!

I'll just have to be a bit careful then but I am hopefully having some more lessons before I go so I want have to be stuck learning to turn correctly and other basics when I get out there. I know it won't be completely the same but the technique should be similar.

Oh, and the dryslope I got to is called Bowles. I think there's two slopes there.

I've heard about people breaking their fingers, could you still ski? Luckily snow is soft so I should be alright.

How long are you going for? I'm going on the 15th of Feb so when I said soon I meant soon for me because It was planned in September last year! Have a great time!

Tom
Haha, thanks for the tip, not sure if the boots would have kept you up! I've been given some Alpine ones by a friend who they are too small for now. They're waterproof and should keep warm so they'll do.

Well that's everything sorted now! I should have lots a photos and maybe some video to show after.

Tom
Thanks for the reply Admin!

Ok, this is the last question, I promise you!

Will I need apres ski boots?

Thanks again,
Tom
Lower Back Pain Ruins my holiday

I used get that all the time (not when skiing but everyday things) and I saw my doctor and he said it was due to my posture as I have my shoulders too far forwards. I keep them pushed back now and haven't had the pain since and it's become natural now so I have better posture.
Try it, hopefully it will help.
Thanks for the replys!

That's good to know because I thought it would be a lot more difficult on snow.

I've heard the snow is good this year around Europe but I've also heard that the conditions at La Plagne are a bit powdery, does this make any difference?
