Borovets ski pass, buy home or resort?
Started by User in Bulgaria, 17 Replies
Bit if snow snobbery above. I remember the 2010-2011 season and seasonairs waiting all season for the good snow which has come and gone in December-Jan. I was still more than happy skiing into April on the hard stuff.

I learnt to ski in Bulgaria, fantastic ski schools, great for families and a bit different to the normal European big 4.

Hope you can send us some powder shots and if not we live in knowledge that 90% of skiers would prefer a sunny day on piste than powder and poor visibility on a big snow day. Good season ahead for all, am sure there will be more than enough and already decent start and cold temps.
New boots, more lessons or both?

Sounds like you need to cut your compression tights. Boots should only have socks in them. Thermals etc should either be cut or folded back over the knee.
Looking for advice on Chamonix

I don't think beginner, intermediate can get bored with weeks skiing in Chamonix. I would argue that les Houches has the nicest piste skiing in area when snow conditions are good. Some great runs and also best mountain restaurants in the valley.

Flegere some really long reds from top lift, perfect for just linking turns. If you can go top to bottom of that then serious burn in legs.

Argentiere, for onpiste I do not believe is a great area. My favorite is the run back down to Argentiere. Best skied in the morning when nobody else is on it. Nice run off the Hurst as well.

Balme, plenty of easy blues, nice and wide and normally quite so good for working on high speed turns. Auguillette is perfect for this.

Brevant is my least favored of the 5, don't get lured into staying there on basis is closets to town. Others are worth the trip.

If you have a car then St Gervais etc also comes into play.

Basically more than you can handle in a week.
Nice reminder. Skiing directly after snow storm (nobody likes to wait the recommended minimum of 2 days), 42 degrees slope (perfect for avalanche, terrain trap, broke off at rollover.

Sad story but all the ingredients were there for the tragic event to happen. Expert skiers or not they were definitely beyond what people would consider safe.

Foot is obviously not being held properly by boot. The length of your ski boot is of very little importance to "fit". Obviously you are not held in place by it being tight around your toes. My boots are 1 size larger than required in order to get correct fit around ankle and ensure foot as whole is solidly in place. Fact that my toes don't touch end has no detrimental affect on skiing.

He needs to see a proper boot fitter.
So then Admin/Chemmy, as per above offer much easier for people to donate accommodation that money directly.

I figure there must be several 1000 weeks of British ski chalet ownership, which are unused. Some of these must fall into category of not really interested in renting but not adverse for a good cause.

Find a smart friend, setup website and soon you have a charity, holiday rental website funding British skiers. Get ski club of Great Britain rep to do key handover and make sure all good at end of stay and give us a T shirt or a hug.

All mountain decision

Check out Salomon Shogun Ski Review. Have a pair mounted with touring bindings and no complaints. I think you would find a fair bit better in trees than the Atomics. The ski very narrow but are good even when gets deep. Skied them from steep hard pack to thigh deep and zero complaints.

I also like the look of the rocket 108. This is probably next offpiste ski I will get.

CHAMONIX.

I quote National Geographic, "World's best ski towns:- Best Rest-Day Activity; Chamonix is a real city, so even if you're not a skier there are many other things to do, such as visit the Alpine Museum."

"Chamonix's cobblestone streets and car-free pedestrian center make for a classic mountain village environment typically bustling with leathery mountaineers and gawking tourists. This is France, so the nightlife is predictably spirited, and diverse accommodations range from grimy climbers' hostels to luxury lodgings."

I am still looking forward to going home to despite being injured and unable to ski.

Am afraid non of the above mentioned really come close. Year round town means, equal number of things for non skiers as skier. Shops, bars, restaurants, baby sitters/creche (for your 1 yr old), swimming pools, spa, gym, museums. Can get small train to St Gervais (beautiful Spa Town.

Probably best town in world. Definitely the least appreciated by people who can't read bus/train time table and by those who complain about waist deep powder making avalanche risk high.

For the remainder of us perfect.
