That road really frightened me when i saw our coach had no snow chains on, the route was nearly sheet ice!!
There is much to be said for winter tyres, i was amazed

Yep links in to La Clusaz

I thought it rang a bell as i had been giving serious thought to La Clusaz for our Feb trip. I have decided to wait a little as the area isnt the highest and see how the snow falls.
Crystal are giving FREE lift passes all season on holidays to LC.

Ian, can i ask what you see in Manigod? I have taken another look and for me it would be one of those places i would not even consider. It looks quite small and not best placed compared to other resorts in that domain.
I am guessing that it is because its a small, likely traditional, village? But does that really out weigh a bus ride to tons of drags?

Driving too?

I do like the more trad resorts although Manigod is a pretty village but the skiing is further down the road where they have developed the ski resort.
Unlike most people I don't really want to meet too many brits ...I can do that at home, there will be brits about in La Clusaz but not in Manigod ..... as for bus ride to drag lifts i don't know where you got that one from ?? with the amount of skiing how much do you want !!! I think 150 K's in Manigod/ La clusaz and another 100 down the road at Le Grand Bornand is more than enough to keep me busy for a week.
But hey ho would it not be a boring world if we were all the same.

I was looking at the area piste map and it shows Manigod village to be away from the skiing as you point out. On the map there doesn't look much around the lifts so i assumed you would be staying in the village hence the bus ride.
The lifts from Manigod are primarily drags. Again according to the map.

When are you going Ian? I am really hoping you will be going before feb as i would love to hear your thoughts as LC is still top of the pops for me in feb.

They are also issued by Air Glaciers and Rega, it could be the best 35 francs you ever spend. Rega have written a guide on calling out a rescue helicopter

Now i can certainly see the value in this. Do you know if this kind of cover is widely available in other regions?

However having said that do you think that it could also make the less than expert skiier that little bit braver and possibly reckless knowing that they effectively have a 'get out of jail free' card?

At that time of year you are looking at glacier skiing only so the 'close to munich' requirement may limit your choices a little.

The first resort that springs to mind for me when i hear 'november skiing' is Solden when the coverage really starts on TV.

Also the Hintertux is open year round and Obergurgl opens mid Nov i think.

One of my well versed clients suggests the Euro may be up to 1.4 by the year end. Hold on, dont book yet!!!!

I'd take that with a huge pinch of salt mate. From what i have been reading up on the feeling is that NOW is the time to jump in.
The current high is mainly due to the Euro crisis and not really because we are strong. With our economy now stalling there is a fear that interest rates could be cut to stimulate growth. If that happens then the pound will fall against the euro again.

Im no fiscal expert but thats what the financial press are saying.
