Where's the best skiing in Scotland?

Snow Time wrote:I completely agree with Pablo on this one; although none of the Scottish ski resorts can guarantee snow, there is usually excellent skiing available from January to March or April. As Pablo has said, this year was good but not exceptional, although the snow in February was amazing.

There are plenty of European resorts that can be hit and miss, and unless you get above about 6-7 thousand feet you are always taking a risk. There are thousands of people caught out in Italy and the lower French resorts each year with poor conditions, having paid significantly more than you would in Scotland.

For me, the skiing in Scotland is excellent and very reasonably priced. A week's skiing this year at Cairngorm was only £146, which is a fraction of the price of most European resorts. For those of us that live close to the snow, a season pass for next year is only £265!

Just for the record, I also ski abroad but go for the higher resorts (Alpe D'Huez).

I agree totally that snow can me hit or miss at some lower european resorts, Scotland being one, but if for one minute you take the protective Scotland blinkers off and ask yourself would you invest in a Scottish ski resort as it stands now I'm sure on a purely financial decision your answer would be no. 8)

Pablo Escobar wrote:Sorry, I am getting defensive  , you laying in to Scotland is like me laying in to the nations least favourite mega-market and its aggressive pricing strategies along with ridiculous expansion which surely cannot be sustained.. unless it can then we are in trouble. Maybe Glencoe should adopt similar tactics

It is the same old story we knock everything which is successful, and because it is successful it's gotta be bad, it is what makes us such an insular nation
It is still fact that your ski resorts cannot rely on the ski season it has to diversify to succeed and survive

Listen my friend you are aging fast we all are, My job involves an awful lot of PR and customer service, so I see the good and a very lot of the bad in people, so when I go on holiday I really do not want mix with the great British public, it is just how I deal withy getting away from it all......I started driving to the slopes due to drunks on a plane and blokes being sick on a transfer bus all due to excess alcohol... my choice is that I do not want to experience that on my hard earned holidays my wife is also in customer service and she feels the same, so it works out ok.. :D

next year there maybe zero snow

Never going to happen, the press only report it when it is either really good, or really bad. It has to come at the right time for you, for me there is no right time as I am always here. Most years ski resorts do turn a profit, unfortunately they don't when they try and buy other ski hills or golf courses

I would be very interested in the resorts P&L, to see if they are viable or not
