You'll may find in Finland they go for Nordic touring more than alpine touring, it's more like cross country with slightly more robust kit.

no, ain't no skiing here, just a couple of drag lifts, they dropped in for lunch, that's all filmed at Verbier which is where everyone should really go.

We met up with the guys and the organiser at lunch that day, he'd been in contact about locations.

Dave M, whats a munro-bagger?

aye Rose, I can hear the brain popping!

They are mountains over 3000 ft. There are around 284 of them in Scotland, Ross will correct me, and named after Sir Hugh Munro, the first person to climb them all.

Some of them are easy strolls, some are life-threatening, in the wrong conditions. Actually, I suppose they can all be LT if the conditions are wrong.

Mountains over 2,500 ft, (or foothills, as my Austrian friends call them!), are called Corbetts, after John Rooke Corbett. They must have a drop of 500 ft between them to qualify. 221 0f these

A mountain over 2000 ft is called a Graham. Min drop between peaks is 150m, and there are 224 of them.

There are a lot of other named categories, including "Wainwrights"

Munro produced a list, he never actually completed them and it's not clear exactly who was the first. The list has varied over the years as better surveying revealed some peaks were a bit over or a bit under. His list was actually 583 peaks but some were subsidiary summits so there were 283 distinct summits. One of my friends actually completed them on the day of the 100th anniversary of the first reported completion by Reverend A. E. Robertson.

The term Wainwrights is used but I think it's pretty clear the man himself would be horrified.

I'd probably buy those new socks I've been thinking about.

Apparently over the last couple of weeks I have won the lottery, been left some money, some-one else has inherited a million and wants to share it with me if they can deposit it in my bank, and the latest some-one would like to give me an unsecured interest free loan they just want my bank details to deposit it in. All emails in my junk box

We get all those, this was the first time I've received it in the real post though, not once but twice, one at each address. Apparently it's widespread in Switzerland at the moment, I was just amazed at the organisation behind it, getting the mail addresses and paying the postage is a whole new level.

I have so much to learn for this skiing lark. I will get there eventually.

This is actually no different from snowboarding or telemark in fact, because unlike downhill skiing there's no single standard for the way boots and bindings interconnect. Like on snowboards there's been several step in systems and I've lost count of the number of telemark ones. That means when people come to try it they have to make these complicated choices about systems.

What Ross was interested in, at the simplest, was a couple of touring bindings that you can use with normal (or DIN compatible) ski boots. That's what I started with and moved onto specialist and lighter kit, but Ross is young and fit so he's OK, if I toured with him he can carry my gear and I'll use my light skis
