The pound goes up, the pound goes down. It's was nearly at parity in 2008/2009. It was the exception to the rule when it was over 1.4 last year. Therefore it shouldn't really matter in terms of holidaying when sensibly viewing things over a more realistic timescale.

Book yourself into a hotel in Val d'Isere from 17th Dec! You know you want to -)

Family BB would be very happy to show you the local watering holes and take you down Le Face at the end of day (with or without your skis attached!!)

Easy routes down from the mountain are available as per pic

We've used the ski train twice (day version). One of the trips was standard, the other standard premier. We found the latter to be much more comfortable (and quiet!) but of course this costs more.

I think the eurostar check in is normally 45 mins but they do say 1 hour for the ski train. Check in is pretty similar to taking a flight. The queueing was reasonably swift for us. Large items of luggage go at the end of each car and the space does end up being fairly jam packed. Lifting heavy bags from the platform up into the train takes some effort.

About 30 mins taxi ride up to La Plagne.

We enjoyed it although it does mean a very early start because of where we live. We contemplated it for our upcoming trip to Val d'Isere but it was just too expensive for a family of 4 unfortunately.
Beyondajoke wrote:I think the optimism shown in j2ski's snow forecasts is legendary and I have lost count of the number of times that the 14 day forecast is loaded with snow (sometimes metres of it) in the last 4-5 days and then revised to zero a few days later. This has already happened half a dozen times this season. I get the disclaimer about mountain weather being unpredictable and there being different weather models to choose from but some good advice might be to not always pick the most optimistic / far-fetched. Anyone would think j2ski had a business to run that made money out of people advertising and/or booking skiing holidays.....

you sir, are in the boondocks of wisecrackery.....
Well done Adders!

Thanks TC. It's not worth the risk methinks, especially with something so crucial as a ski boot.

When the time comes to change my boots I'm very tempted to go for an in-resort purchase. I had my current boots adjusted at Stoked in Zermatt. They were hugely knowledgeable and would be top of my list.

I've booked my daughter into Glide & Slide in Otley (next weekend 3rd Dec). Will report back on the experience (and with my wallet likely to be £250 to £300 lighter)!!

Thanks for the latest replies peeps.

3V may not happen now this season after all. We have Val d'Isere lined up for 17th Dec and I think we would like to get to Austria if possible Feb half term. If it ends up being Easter, I may go to Are, Sweden again. 2nd trip decisions to be made after Christmas...
