Huge snow ongoing now in Northern Alps, so am sure we are in for more bad news tomorrow. Badly needed to fill in crevasses to open up the high glacier skiing but at what cost. Just checked my beeper battery and am planning on piste only because of knee.

Skied today properly for first time since knee surgery. All good except some slight irritation of the fatty pad. Some small issues at end of right hand turns (injured left knee), so for sure am not committing 100% of weight to it but seemed to be there after a few runs. Day off ice climbing tomorrow and then back to skiing for a day before more climbing. Knee brace and offpiste in early January I think, until then will let the pistes challenge and help strengthen then knee.

les Houches for afternoon which is really nice ski area and you could argue some of best piste skiing in the valley. There are rental shops opposite the cable car so your plan will work fine. Typically will take you 1 1/2 hrs from landing to get into the valley.

Chamonix, stay in hostel (Vagabond), B&B (Hotel le Chamonix or equivalent) or Chamonix Sud and all will be well within budget. Cheap flights and transfer. As much backcountry or touring as you could wish for.

Nice skiing, reminds me of why I bought some 71mm underfoot.

would not trust a UK boot fitter to be honest. Why not get done in resort, is not very convenient to nip back to UK if need some adjustments is it?
