Draglifts...what a bummer

co-signing wanderers post.

drags can be a pain (in the legs) but definately have an upside

one i find being you can get off anywhere! i noticed in latania a drag lift that runs later than the gondola so wen I needed to get back i dragged up and slipped off when i was high enough up to ski back to the chalet, score!

slinkyskier wrote:I never seem to really improve with my skiing which is highly annoying when I'm constantly talking myself through each turn - one week a year doesnt help but .....Ive now booked a 2 hour lesson on my first day (£60) and thats it rather than ski school for 3 mornings - not much difference in price but do you think this is a good move? :(

Id perhaps advise the 2nd day instead of the first.

I found my other half and I were both very rusty on the first day and definately needed a few hours to find out feet which definately helped before our lessons.

The lessons seem to go by so quick so definately try and get your skills warmed up even for a short amount of time before hand to maximise the amount you can learn

yeah the hire people dont seen very helpful when boot fitting beginners/inexperienced people...a little advice on how tight the boot should be, and what pain should NOT be put up with, would go a long way

the lesson i learned is definately go with private lessons...2x2hour lessons came out around the same price as 5x2hour group lessons but i learned so much in that time

always warm up and warm down

and lastly

push yourself and try those red runs that look scary and blacks by the end if you are brave enough
I just got back from my first ever ski trip.

This is what i think you need:

boots for walking when not skiing
ski socks - at least 2 pairs
base layer trousers
salopettes
base layer top
fleece jumper
ski jacket
good gloves with wrist protector and removable linings
balaclava/neck warmer
goggles
sun glasses
hat
backpack
snacks (1 snickers + cereal bar per day)
flask + cuppa soups
camera
LIP BALM
sun cream

I see some of this stuff has been suggested - it was easier to list everything i took to make sure i didnt miss out on anything

have a great trip

couldnt really care less what people think of my choice of ski wear to be honest ;) im sure il break a taboo or two and get a few dirty looks with my poor knowledge of ski etiquette

for anyone interested...i ended up getting most things in tk maxx

jacket, salopettes, socks (x2), goggles, gloves.

ski wear section was busy so i actually asked a few fellow shoppers for recommendations and i think ive done ok

hope this thread can help anyone else who finds themself in my situation

ahh only 3 weeks till im off to the alps

as a fellow learner i have no recommendations

just want to say

when you see the views from the mountain top you will be blown away by the beauty

i had my first days skiing on the caingorm mountain and comparing it to xscape centre well...theres no comparison

indoor skiing is like driving an formula 1 car in a car park

personally...im going on my first ski trip to courchevel, plainly because i got a great deal and money is my main factor

depending on your financial situation you may be able to pick a resort most suited to beginners or pick a resort where you find a good last minit deal!

i hope you enjoy your holiday
