The guy at the shop acted like I was retarded, and if I couldn't handle 50-60mph I had no right to own them. :) I didn't check into bindings yet, but he also let me know that I would have to have race bindings - as though that was some kind of deterrent. We'll see. I might give it a try. . .

Is it insane to want a real race ski (Rossi 9x, or Atomic GS 9) just for the "fun" of it? A local shop has some '06 models for $99 US. And I am tempted to pick some up just to see what they are like. Am I going to kill myself? :)

Trencher nailed it! It was a really easy ski to use. It wanted to carve, but never left me feeling like I was on too much of a ski. ;)
I am not sure what the edge bevel's from the factory are, but the ones I was on had a 1 degree base, and 3 degree side bevel. Very enjoyable. |

Sounds like you really care about the skiing! Haha!
I'll be in Tahoe end of February, I am under the impression that it should offer pretty much anything you could want. :) If you do make it - Welcome to the USA! Have fun! |

I am sure you will get great advice from others, but here is my 2 cents.
If you can find a demo day in your area that will be a big help in your decision. Basically, I think you can have a great time on most any ski by the major brands. I love my Volkl S4's, but I really enjoyed my time on K2 Crossfires, and Atomic Metron 9's. I don't hear much of anybody who doesn't like the skis they own. :) It sounds to me like you don't want anything too extreme - so you might want to stay away from anything known for it's stiffness, or short radius. But, don't be afraid to buy something that might "challenge" you. It would be really disappointing to buy one that feels easy now, and next year realize that it just isn't enough ski for you. |

I thought it was interesting how they were "flailing" around - almost like they were living beings. . . :)

Maybe you should join Trencher and go "poleless!" ;) I think I will be when I get back on in 4-5 weeks since My shoulder will probably be too sensitive to handle them that soon.

Well, Pavel, I liked your story! I question your apparent fixation on Atomics. . . You do tempt me to go that route. But, I have to wonder about those "SALOMON Mutix." ;)
