Chamonix had a sprinkle overnight above 2000m. Very good conditions first thing this morning but slushy by 11am down low. Packed powder offpiste which was nice to ski on. Wind at moment 35km/h ++ above 2500m, overall Grand Montets is offering good skiing still. Brevent/Flegere/Le Tour/Les Houches all need a bit more.

Courmayeur, having good snow season as well.

Serious damage has been done to south facing slopes below 2000m. Good news is warmth has triggered so many avalanches that fresh snow will now fall on solid base.

Has to be Bormio, Livigno had maybe worst transfer in word for very average skiing and town. I would prefer Passo Tonale see other poste) and would never return there.

When are you going anyway, snow is back on Monday and seems to be a reasonable week. Finally around 20th winds come in from NW so cold and wet for Northern Alps vs dumping on Italian side.

Well worst case you have Courmayeur and Chamonix <40min drive.

Skied there many years ago, very unmemorable terrain and town, safe bet for snow though. How about Pila, La Thuile, Cervinia all much better skiing in Aosta.

Good ski run though and like good food and wine it will not always be good for your health. There is always an allure for the "deep", some watch it on TV some live it. One man's avalanche is another man's beer gut. I guess both seek to avoid, listen to advice but ultimately you live your life as you chose.
N.B.: The high mountain routes are neither sign-posted nor controlled, therefore they are to be treated as mountaineering or Alpine skiing routes and should be faced with the necessary preparation and equipment. If you take these routes without mountain guides, you will do so at your own risk and danger. |
