Tony_H wrote:So how do you explain this then Ise, having just said you cant diagnose without having seen the person ski:

What I said was :

Calf ache is a bit hard to diagnose without seeing someone skiing and can be related to boots, the ache in thighs is an easy one, it's 99% or more certain caused by leaning back too far.

I can't see how that can be any clearer. I don't think you bother to read anything before posting these comments. I don't understand why you do this.

chamonix - which lift pass

Brucie wrote:You are right Ise. It cant be too difficult to co-ordinate the lift passes in one valley.

If I remember correctly, I skied a day in Argentieres recently where one of the lifts wasnt covered by the area pass!!!

Obviously a bit of historical squabbling going on. Sad really. :(

That's the lift at Grand Montet, bandit and I have discussed that before :D I think it's a amazing cheek, the day pass isn't any cheaper than anywhere else and they have the nerve to have a leaflet telling you it's great value because if you don't use that lift you don't pay for it.

What can be wrong with the boots?

you need a boot fitter :D If you talk to people like Warren Smith their view of ski biomechanics and physiology says that if your boot is too stiff or you're over-flexing knees you can get some tightness in the calf. But one of his big principles is this idea that ankle flex is key to freeride style skiing and most of us have boots too stiff to flex the ankles. I think he's probably right but there's a trend to ever stiffer boots for freeride so you've got to have the context this is just opinion

They need to get a grip :D If they carry on at this rate every lift in the valley will have a different lift pass.

It used to be one of the best regional passes in Europe, our season passes used to cover all of Chamonix including Les Houches, St Gervais/Megeve, Praz, Notre Dame Bellecombe, Les Contamines and a bunch of other smaller stations. That seems to have stopped years ago now. It even included the Aig' du Midi lift and a bunch of tickets for the top lift at Grand Montets.

In fact if they carry on like this they'll be one lift company, CdA, for all of France apart from Chamonix and there'll be 20 other lift companies between Les Houches and La Tour

Some slightly challenging skiing conditions  the snow's excellent but the visibility is not more than a few metres. Fortunately it's pretty soft and deep so you can use that to smooth things out if you miss a turn.

Calf ache is a bit hard to diagnose without seeing someone skiing and can be related to boots, the ache in thighs is an easy one, it's 99% or more certain caused by leaning back too far. That's often made a lot worse when people try and ski off-piste or in powder and try to lean back as was discussed here a couple of weeks ago.

As do you, all you seem to be able to do on this one is be abusive.

It might surprise you that people read J2Ski without feeling obliged to make some chippy comment to every other posting.
Brucie wrote:You never do! And I dont think he was being any way abusive.
And please check your spelling before pontificating!

very true, I never see any need to be abusive

I'm sorry an extra "z" in bizarre has spoiled your day.
