Just to let you know that we will again be giving a series of free Avalanche Awareness lectures this winter in Chamonix for all backcountry users. They will be on Monday evenings at 6pm at the Bighorn Bistro in Cham Sud. Dates: 9 Dec 19, 16 Dec 19, 6, 13, 20 Jan 2020.

The talks last around an hour, and are delivered by an IFMGA Guide. The presentations aim to highlight some of the main risks, how to minimise danger, and some emergency procedures if it does all go wrong. If you have never had any education on this subject, then get yourself along. If you have, then would there be any harm in having a little refresher ?

The venue for this season's lectures will be the Bighorn Bar and Bistro in Chamonix Sud. All lectures will be delivered by IFMGA Mountain Guides living full-time in the Chamonix Valley.

Lectures run from 18:00 to 19:00 on the following dates:

We look forward to meeting you and to sharing our knowledge with you.
Just a quick note to let you know that we will again be offering our free Avalanche Awareness lectures in Chamonix this winter. They are on Monday evenings at La Terrasse bar in the town centre.

The talks cover the causes of avalanches, how to avoid them, and emergency procedures in case you are involved in an accident.

Lecture Dates: 8 Dec, 15 Dec, 22 Dec, 29 Dec, 5 Jan.

This year, in order to try and control numbers, we have introduced a booking system. It's still free, but you just need to log on to the following site, and then select how many tickets you want:

http://t.co/jvou5Ey9UK

It only takes a couple of minutes and we promise not to send you any unsolicited mail.

The first night has already sold out, so if you're going to be in Chamonix book early to avoid disappointment.

Stay safe this winter......

It's a wet slide. Hence it is very slippy (keeping things simple here), and will slide on low angles. Hence in hot conditions avalanches will release spontaneously on slopes <30degrees, particularly if the bed surface is smooth (wet grass, rock slab etc)
Grand Montet (Chamonix), Courmayeur and Verbier will all have (limited) opening this weekend, and are all within 2hours of Geneva. Enjoy !
