Amazing day skiing yesterday, blue bird, 20cm of fresh and lapping fresh tracks. Kastle 108 BMX were working a treat, amazing float, soft tip and stiff tail. Definitely worth people trying them in renting. Another 55cm due between today and Monday. Amazing conditions now in Chamonix and Courmayeur.

Interesting tour today up Punta Croce above Morgex in Italy. Certainly best tree skiing I have done in Europe. Heavy snow yesterday so 20cm of fresh tracks which must also of hit Courmayeur, La Thuile and Pila.
Big snow forecast again for tomorrow so everything is in pretty amazing condition now. |

I would not worry too much about boot flex. Unless you are super heavy or aggressive skier 90 will be fine. Not going to be best boot for super carving but still much better than a low touring boot which most people are using to access real offpiste.

Skied in Courmayeur today. Lifts up to Torino was open and people were skiing down to Chamonix. Resort pistes in very nice condition and moderate snow this afternoon and more on way. Planned to ski Toula glacier but backed out half way on walk from hut to ladders due to poor visibility but snow at altitude was super light.

First minute of this gives you an idea, few points to orientate yourself (26 sec Dent Du Geant), 108 sec Tour Ronde (which people do ski) now look at internet topo map. These people are cutting hard left across the Col Des Flambeaux as they have another objective, however they could of continued down. As you see terrain is moderate (would still not recommend running about without being roped up or on skis in case of crevasse http://youtu.be/TfuOyiNgV3U ). http://youtu.be/SrY1DAXAzT8 25 seconds gives you full view of run down. |

Am afraid to say Crystal are sleeping on this one. You can get lift to Torino hut and hence can ski both Toula (to Courmayeur)and VB glaciers (join much further down go to Chamonix). Crystal are talking about the summer cable car across the VB, which is never open in the Winter.
http://www.lovecourmayeur.com/en/info/ski-lift So you can do either a simple VB (Glacier de Geant), steeper one on La VB from Chamonix or from Courmayeur you can ski down Col de Geant from Torino hut and meet same glacier and end up in Chamonix. Can catch bus from train station home (needs booking online). |

If you are intermediate cruisers then probably cannot beat Cervinia at that time of year. Guaranteed snow, nice enough village and short transfer. Being Italy prices and coffee and much better than rest of alps.
Really late March is not so "end" of season so I wouldn't be overly concerned. All of France and Italy have great bases now and more snow in next week will put them on track for great season. |
