Happy M Day...

Pablo,
You're a bit young yet - did you see that piece in the papers about those school children who had a baby - what was the boy, 11?

I had a lovely mother's day, and I'm glad to hear so did everyone else. We went out for the day, and I had carrot cake, and a nice walk, and a drive around, and then in the evening my daughter cooked me a great meal. The best dish was the home-made ice-cream, but it all turned out very well. I just have to cope with a slight feeling of an overstretched stomache due to eating too much.

How did every-one start skiing?

My Mum learned to ski, I can't remember where, but she went ski-ing later in Obergurgl in 1950 when she was a student.

And when I was 7 our house burned down, and we all had a pretty traumatic time (none of us got burnt though), and I think that's why my Mum decided to take us all on a ski-ing holiday to Italy when I was 8 (even my Dad eventually came, although he wasn't at all keen on the idea). But I actually learned to ski on the dry slope at Alexandra Palace in North London, before we went. And I loved it right from the first moment.

I went again with the school when I was 11, and then not for 30 years until I went with my two girls.

Ian,
When I made up my name I never even thought about the fact there was some famous man called AllyG, however he spells his name, or that people might not be able to tell whether new people were male or female. And, if you remember, I didn't have a clue about how to make an avatar.

Maybe there should be some code built into people's descriptions, like M or F so I wouldn't keep making these embarassing mistakes.

And, you know something else, everytime you say 'little Wickam' I think your daughter's a boy, because it sounds like Wickam Junior in a Jennings book, and then I remember that she's a girl.

I've just realised something - I've gone and done it again!

I've assumed Snow Time is male, but they might be female. Sorry Snow Time, are you male or female? I seem to continually make mistakes over this.

Ian,
I've had my breakfast - muesli, same every day, even when I ski. I try to stay fit and slim, but it's getting harder as I get older.

I don't know which supermarket you work for, but I will be going into Tesco later with my daughter to buy special mother's day food for her to cook me a meal tonight. Flowers are a waste of money, we have a huge garden here, but food I like, and my daughter cooks (and skis) better than me, at age 15.

Hi Snow Time,
I'm glad to hear your son is doing so well. In my experience (with my daughter), once they get over the basic fear of ski-ing, they overtake their parents in no time. I'd guess that after one week's ski holiday, possibly 2 depending on how good you are, he'll be saying 'Hurry up Dad - what are you doing!'.

Have fun ski-ing!

Ally
Hi Snow Time,
I wouldn't worry about being an idiot - there are plenty of others here  especially me, I'm always putting my foot in it, or doing something incredibly stupid.

Now that you've taken the trouble to register, why not start posting some messages? Like, where's your favourite place to ski/snowboard (assuming you do ski, and you don't just like the fancy jackets!)?

Ian,
I can see now why you keep making jokes and doing things like nearly causing me to get chucked off this site (over the XXX ad etc.)

I should think it's pretty tough being a supermarket manager, especially at the moment, when everyone is fighting to stay alive, and margins are getting thinner and thinner.
