Rose,
You poor thing. I hope you have someone to be nice to you and read you stories, and give you treats and make you feel better. Ally |

Thanks Rossyhead,
I don't like thinking of inner and outer skis much either, uphill and downhill seem easier, although perhaps not when ski-ing on the flat! I have a feeling the foragonal movement is the one you use when pole planting, when you start transferring your weight from your old downhill ski to your new downhill ski. It is all very complicated. I don't envy you, having to first understand it yourself, and then explain it to your pupils (in simple terms, so us dummies can understand). Ally |

Ise,
As I've said before, I pretty much never understand what ski instructors say anyway, unless it's something like lean further foreward, or stand up straighter, and I find it helps if I have some idea of what I'm supposed to be doing, and know some of their terms, before I begin the lesson. One of my last teachers, for example, was on about avalement going over moguls, and I only knew what she meant because I'd been studying the book beforehand. Ally |

Hi Ise,
Thanks, is the foragonal movement the one you do when you're pole planting, or do you do it some other time? Ally |

Rossyhead,
The reason I wanted to know about your posture problems was because of all the stuff I said in the thread about 'why can't I turn left?'. I think we all get used to ski-ing, walking, swimming etc. a certain way, and if we do it long enough it's very difficult to change. I get the perpendicular bit, but what on earth are foragonal movements? And as a mother, I feel a lot of sympathy for your father! Dids - I'm glad your nephew's having fun, doing what he likes best. Rossyhead,
Do you think your posture problems were because you'd drifted away from the position you were originally taught, or because the ideal correct posture position has changed since you were taught? It must have looked very funny seeing all the expert skiers on your course struggling to do a snowplough correctly! Ally |

I'm with Tony on this one, and I think it's Rumpy Pumpy, not Rumpy Bumpy - it sounds better anyway when it rhymes.
And I'm not surprised Amanda got mixed up with the thread subjects - isn't this one supposed to be about how we all started ski-ing? It seems to have got a bit mixed up with the other one, happy mother's day, I think. I'm totally exhausted after ski-ing as well. I think it's partly the altitude. I can hardly keep my eyes open after about 9 O'clock at night, and then I wake up at about 2 a.m. and it's ages before I manage to get back to sleep (and before anyone says anything, I'm definitely sleeping on my own when I'm on holiday). You mean, really, it's remember to trim your toenails before you go, but if you don't have time bring the clippers?
Well, it's certainly a new one on me, I don't think I've ever noticed having a problem because my toenails are too long (maybe I always keep them short enough?). Ally |
