Ise,
Are you making jokes about 'Pride and Prejudice'? It's my favourite Jane Austen. Ally |

Ise,
This is Pembrokeshire, holiday hotspot during the summer, because of our amazing beaches, islands, etc. etc. We have 3 houses here - we live in one and do 2 as holiday cottages. Back to work now, Ally |

Instead of a quiz, we could do an opinion poll, with a certain result so that there are no arguments afterwards.
How many people think I will get the farmhouse (my parents old holiday cottage) next door to us, ready for holidaymakers this Friday? I haven't quite finished the painting yet, I still have to clean the 'tar' from the lower part of the old huge chimney, I've got to seal the slate window sills (8 of them) I've got all the crockery in boxes etc., the bedlinen is all mixed up and in boxes, the carpenter's coming tomorrow to splice in some wood in the rotten windows, I've got to re-hang the curtains, I've got to work out what we haven't got and go and buy it (e.g. I've just remembered I haven't supplied rubber gloves), and the electricians still have some minor work to do, the downstairs shower room needs all the grout to be deep cleaned plus the tiled floor, I've got to work out why the telephones aren't working right, plus I have to clean everywhere when everything else is finished and make up 5 beds. As far as I can see there are 3 possible scenarios. 1. I stay up all night and work all day and everything gets done and it all turns out O.K. 2. I get some minor complaints about the things I haven't finished yet. 3. The holidaymakers run away and complain and find somewhere else and I get in big trouble with the agents (I've never had a complaint yet in 11 years with our other cottage). There are no prizes for correct guesses. Solution sometime after 3 p.m. on Friday when the guests arrive. Ally |

Well, I think you must be very smart Bandit - what do you do for a living? (Presumably you don't earn your money cleaning toilets like I do).

Bandit won the quiz but didn't get the prize, and she's not very happy about it.

Thanks for giving us your answers Bandit. I wouldn't have got any of them right, so it's just as well I didn't try :P

Pavel,
That seems rather hard on Bandit. She won the quiz but yet still doesn't get a prize? How about giving her a small prize for achieving the highest score. It would be an incentive then for more people to take part next year. And what were the answers? Ally |

I have been to Obergurgl, and it is nice, but possibly a bit small. We always seemed to end up ski-ing home down the same route. But you can ski over to Hochgurgl, and there is a free bus connecting them via Untergurgl (?) which is below Hochgurgl by the road, if the lifts are closed when you come back.
The hotel we were in was silver dinner service and it was very amusing watching the waiters rush to snatch our knives and forks away if we missed out a course! There was no chance of using the wrong ones, so nothing to worry about (I have no idea how to tell a salad fork from an ordinary one). Ally |
