Whistler Early April
Started by T1berious in Canada, 3 Replies, discussing Big Snow and Whistler Blackcom...
Personally I would think twice, Whistler weather is largely influenced from its proximity to relatively warm Ocean. That often means big snow but also make resort prone to rain at lower altitudes. Given has been a warm year and they have been suffering I would suggest heading inland a bit.

Sounds like another good job with the planning and glad you all had fun despite being a challenging winter for a lot of the Alps. What is the plan for next year?

Looks like great skiing, massive wide gentle piste or offpiste to open up the afterburners and a little steeper stuff if that is your thing. What is the easiest way to get there?
Sore calves

Skiing is not the sort of activity which should put massive strain on your calves. Having said that I agree with above, doing lots of standing raises making sure you go through whole range and hold at each end will definitely help your fitness. Other questions might be:-
1) With modern boots you only need a relatively thin pair of specialist ski socks, how many was your wife wearing?
2) If you are wearing thermal leggings make sure they do not go past the top of your socks. I always put a fold in mine around knee area to ensure they stop above sock. Only thing going in my boot is a nice smooth sock and absolutely nothing else.
Really sounds to me that to be getting such pain you have effectively cut off circulation to lower leg.

Have to say they always struck me a something for people who can't and don't want to put effort to learn to carve. There may be a use in balance (one run a day) but we should also remember that a lot of power comes from tail of the skis. Watch a racer and they are certainly not shy to exploit this before fighting to get pull legs back underneath before initiation of next turn. Nice idea in the late 90's should probably be in the bin. Skis technology and the technique to exploit that has moved on.

DPS skis gave me that same feeling, definitely not easy with no tails.
